This past Saturday, February 8th, Lakeview High School held their annual Winter Wonders dance. Despite the frigid weather and cold temperatures, students ranging from grades 8-12 showed up ready to dance the night away. Students, staff, and family members may be wondering how the dance went. Many students who attended had very positive feedback from the experience.
Students seemed to be extremely delighted with the decor set up by the student council. Senior Brielle Redd said, “The Winter Wonders dance was really fun this year. The theme was Cupid’s Garden, and I enjoyed seeing our cafeteria decorated with beautiful decorations like balloons, lights, and hearts. My favorite decorations were the giant balloon arch and the streamers hung from the ceiling. I also liked how there were hearts on the walls because it really tied in with the Cupid theme. Overall, I had a great time at my last Winter Wonders and am thankful for the memories I made there over the years.”
Decorations were placed by the student council. These students worked very hard to decorate the entire cafeteria for the student body. Intervention Specialist and Student Council adviser, Lora Comichisto, supervised the entire process of preparing and carrying out the dance activities. Additionally, one of our very own teachers, chemistry teacher Joshua Murphy, was the DJ for the night. Angela Sarko, Lakeview’s teacher for yearbook and publications was also present, taking photographs for the 2025 yearbook. Science teacher Morgan Jankovich and Intervention Specialist Kendall Werschey served as chaperones. Administrators Lawrence Herrholtz and Michael Detoro collected tickets at the door and supervised along with School Resource Officer Jason Smith providing security. The dedication that Lakeview’s staff and students put into this dance is incredible and greatly appreciated.
At the end of each dance, the chosen senior song is played for just the seniors to dance to. This year’s senior class chose the song titled, “Five More Minutes” by Scott McCreery. Senior Arianna Powell said, “The senior song was very emotional. Dancing in a circle with the people I have grown up with all realizing this is our last Winter Wonders together brings out lots of emotions. I am very thankful for the school for always putting on this dance for us to give seniors an opportunity to do this. I have attended Winter Wonders each year of high school. Every year I have been impressed with the decorations and music, but the best part is always dancing and laughing with your friends.”
The night of the dance Cortland experienced some low temperatures and snow. The temperature was around 27 degrees, and there was a mixture of light snow and rain. Some students were cautious about driving to the dance in these conditions. Junior Amina Matijevic said, “Driving to the dance I had to be very aware of my surroundings. Although it wasn’t very dangerous, it is always good to be a safe driver. Even though I had to be cautious while driving, I would say my time at Winter Wonder’s was worth it. Fun and upbeat music was played making it super nice to see my peers dancing and smiling. Because I attend TCTC, I don’t really get to see a lot of my friends that stayed on Lakeview’s campus. Having this dance as an opportunity to get everyone together again is something I will always be grateful for.”
Overall it seems that students enjoyed their time at the dance. Thank you to the students and staff who made this night possible! Special thank you to our student council members and all of the staff members who attended to chaperone and pour drinks. The level of dedication that Lakeview puts into these dances has earned a spectacular reputation. On behalf of the student body and senior class, we are very grateful for all of the effort this school puts into Winter Wonder’s along with other dances such as prom and homecoming. It is safe to say that the Bulldogs enjoyed Winter Wonders once again.
