The Fellowship of Christian Athletes kicks off the year with a bang! FCA’s first meeting took place on Wednesday, September, 3rd, straight after school. Although the name implies it, this club is not limited to just Christians or just athletes, it is open to all students. Its mission is to create a supportive environment where students can come together to encourage one another, discuss faith, and build friendships. The very first meeting was the biggest to date, over 30 people! The entire volleyball and boys cross country teams were in attendance. They always love to see new faces join their meetings.
The club president, Senior Lauren Brown started the year off right with a lesson about how to read the Bible and spending quiet time with God. She explained how spending quiet time with God looks different for everyone. She mentioned that you can spend quiet time with God at any time, whether it is in the morning before work or at night before bed, he will always be listening. She focused on the books of John and Romans, saying that “These books are great for first time readers.” Lastly, she explained that you do not only have to read the Bible but you can listen to podcasts or an audio book version.
This is Brown’s fourth year being a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and her second year of being the club’s president. She says that, “After being in the club for almost four years, it was so encouraging to see the amount of growth we had. I think this year is off to a great start and I am excited to see what other things we can do with a bigger group!” Her leadership has been a great influence in making FCA a space where questions are welcome, and faith is presented in a way that is easy to understand.
Brown’s enthusiasm and determination really shows during her lessons. She always does an excellent job of explaining how you can grow your relationship with God without it becoming confusing for people who might not know anything about the Bible. You can truly tell how much she loves to spread the Gospel.
After Brown finished up the lesson, Pastor Dave, the club’s advisor gave a quick closing lesson to end the meeting. Dave says that, “It is great to see so many young people who want to hear the truth, the Biblical account, and the instruction in life. And even more wanting to be a part.”
Senior Reese Fabry, who has been attending FCA since her Freshman year says,“I love that this is a student-led club. Sometimes it can be discouraging when a stranger is talking to you about the Bible. But, having a student lead the discussion makes it easier to understand and pay attention to. This year’s first meeting went extremely well, there was an amazing turn out. I’m super excited for what the future brings to FCA!”
One of the great things about this club is that it is not affiliated with any particular church. You don’t even have to go to church to join this club, it is open to anyone and everyone. It is just made of people who want to expand their knowledge about God.
The entire club is super excited for this year! They hope to see much more growth. They meet every Wednesday, after school in the media center. And for anyone curious about joining, the invitation is clear that all are welcome. Bring a friend, come ready to connect, and discover a community that values encouragement, faith, and fun.
See you next Wednesday!
