A duo that started eight years ago is taking their talents to the next level. MaKenna Doran and Annabelle Humphrey started playing with each other ever since they were nine years old and now will be signing to further their academic and athletic careers in November.
This next chapter in their lives is important, but you can’t overlook their accomplishments through high school. With that being said, Doran is a four-year letter winner in soccer, one year-letter winner in track, and has contributed in school by being a part of Spanish club and ski club. Humphrey is a four-year letter winner in soccer, four-year letter winner in basketball, two-year letter winner in track, and is also a part of the National Honors Society. Through all of their high school soccer careers they have been starters on varsity and in these past two years they have been named team captains.
When deciding where Doran wanted to play in college she states, “Something that stood out to me about Clarion and their soccer program to help me make the decision to go there was the balance that the coach reassured that there would be a balance between academics and athletics” while emphasizing another thing that stood out “was the size of the campus.”
It is clear that when Doran was searching for her future home she not only wanted soccer to be prioritized but her education as well. Also while Doran was making this decision to play at Clarion university she wasn’t just looking at the soccer program but the school, and significantly Clarion universities school size made it feel more like home.
As Doran looks forward to joining the team this coming fall season she proclaims she will provide her team with “two of her best traits as a soccer player”, “communication skills” and her “foot skills on the field”.
As a key player in the upcoming freshmen class Doran is looking to provide the team with many skills such as strong communication on the field. While Doran looks forward to contributing some of her own skills to the team that will better her teammates, she also looks forward to sharpening her skills this pre-season.
Doran is anticipating receiving a “summer fitness packet this spring”, and also she is planning “to prepare myself this winter, staying in the gym all unit I go to college”, in hope to prevent having to restart her training.
To switch the focus on to Annabelle Humphrey, as of July of 2025 she has verbally committed to continue her athletic and academic career at Penn West Edinboro University. With continuing her soccer career she’s looking forward to the new experience that will contribute to her personal growth.
Some things Humphrey is hoping will progress her growth as an athlete is, “good competition and playing with new people that have similar goals” as she does.
As Humphrey reflects upon the process of choosing what university she will attend for the next four years, she expresses how well the school itself fits her wants and needs, “This school stood out to me because of the environment it had and how close the team’s chemistry was. The university is also in a very good location where I knew I would have fun.”
Even though Humphrey is going to play college soccer, when she was looking at schools she was taking in consideration of how life would be at the university if she wasn’t an athlete as well. With that being said Penn West Edinboro University checked a lot of her boxes which led to her excitement in committing this summer.
With Humphrey committing to a D2 school she recognizes her support around her that have helped make this process a little easier. Humphrey extends her thanks to “my teammates from SVA and close friends have definitely helped me reach this point in my career. Also my club coach as well as my family has pushed me to this level and encouraged me to find the right school for me.”
As this is an extremely important decision to come to Humphrey knows she couldn’t have made it to this point in her career if it wasn’t for the people she surrounds herself with. These impactful people have encouraged her, supported her, and allowed her to chase her dreams. With that being said she gives those around her gratitude for their contributions that have guided her to this next chapter in her life.
