The Lakeview High School Girls varsity golf team has been determined to fight for every match. They have been practicing since the middle of summer in July! Each day they are out there working on golf whether it is playing from hole to hole, chipping and putting on a green, or hitting out in the range. The regular season for the lady bulldogs is now over and with their fight they were able to stay undefeated through it all. The Bulldogs were also able to grasp a victory at the NE8 championship with also having three top ten individual scores that included sophomores Olivia Norris placing second and Madeline Isenberg placing fifth, and finally junior Parker Morris placing seventh. For the Bulldogs the work is never done and they are now preparing for their sectionals tournament.
The six starters for the varsity girls golf have made so many goals for themselves and the team bond between all of them is what makes them meet all of their goals. Whether it is laughing out on the golf course or being in a serious situation in a match they always have each others backs no matter what. Overall just the team as a whole brings such a great spirit and competitive energy which makes them unbeatable out on the course.
When being asked some questions about what it takes to be focused from shot-to-shot out on the golf course Isenberg explains “It’s important to stay focused because it can help you make better decisions throughout the match whether it is using a different club or deciding where to hit the ball, ignorance and being unfocused can make you do things carelessly and your score will add up quickly.”
Being undefeated for the season and being the NE8 championship for the second year in a row is a huge accomplishment for the lakeview girls golf program. They have worked so hard all season and have stayed focused that has gotten them to where they are today. There are tough teams in the conference and with their determination they were able to stay hungry through it all to come out with the win.
Last season the lady Bulldogs got to sectionals and fell short from moving on into their journey. This year the lady Bulldogs have been working extra hard so this won’t happen again. The work ethic between these girls is unmatched.
Norris was asked, Why is it important to be connected as a team in the sport of golf? She answered by saying, “Being connected as a golf team is important for improving performance, building trust, friendships that will last a lifetime, and creating an enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.”
Even with all of the serious hard work these ladies put in they never lose the fun in the sport of golf because that is what it is all about. They make sure that even if they have a bad shot they forget about it and just move on to the next and try to improve the outcome in anyway they can’t. Their teammates are always there for them to help them out when they get in tough situations.
Then senior Dj Godfrey was asked the question how things have changed or grown since her freshman year to now being a senior on the varsity golf team? She states, ” The switch from freshman year to now a senior is pretty stark. As a freshman I was unsure of what rules to follow, how the game was played, and had no confidence. Now I am more sure of my game than ever and I am able to ask for help when I need it, but more importantly give help where it’s asked.”
It is important to be confident in your game when your out playing because if you go out timid you may make shots that don’t have to outcome you want and that is what Godfrey has explained. Godfrey is always out there helping anyone that needs it along with the rest of the girls on the team.
With the 2025 season rounding out with only having a few matches left the Bulldogs are going to do everything they can to move out of sectionals. They will continue their grind out on the course from hole-to-hole and shot-to-shot. After winning the NE8 they have high hopes in the season but no matter what they will keep their Lakeview spirit high and have fun going into these big matches!
