The Lakeview High School boys varsity soccer team has been hungry to get its first home win. They were dedicated to owning their turf after their first loss against Howland. The boys’ soccer team at Howland has always been a tough competition for the Bulldogs, so they needed to pick up a win to defend their turf. After the tough loss, the Bulldogs were working extra hard at practice and making sure their team bond was unmatched.
After the boys’ determination at practice, they were able to pick up the win against the Fighting Irish with a score of 4-0, not even letting them score a single goal. The team captains were able to lead the team to victory, to grasp their first home win
Team captain senior Tyler Simonyi was asked the question How does it feel to lead the team as a captain into their first home win? He states, “It felt amazing leading us to the first win. We played really good as a team.”
Simonyi also adds, “In the Ursuline game I had to step up and play other positions when people got hurt. It helped the team move the ball and score more.”
The Bulldogs needed a strong mindset after their loss, and they needed to gain confidence. Each of them needed to do their part, and the team needed to trust one another in order to get the win.
Senior Aidan Barnot was asked what was your mindset going into the Ursuline game, knowing we needed a win on our home turf? His response was, “I had an open mind going into the game, I knew Ursuline would be a quality opponent and I knew as a team we had to be on our A game.”
For the team, this win was a huge accomplishment, and it built the team’s confidence going into the rest of the season. Ever since this win, the team has only had one loss.
The team captain senior Brandon Toot was asked the burning question, “How did it feel to get your first win as a senior? Toot’s response, “It felt great to get our first home win and it now sets a standard on how we should be playing every time we step on our home field.”
Every time the Bulldogs step onto the field, they are focused and have a competitive spirit going into each game. This makes them fierce competition for the opponents. The Bulldogs’ record is now 3-4, and they are third in the NE8 conference, which is very competitive. This is impressive for the Lakeview Bulldogs, and they are determined to keep their spot high in the NE8 conference.
During the fight between the Ursuline Irish, the Bulldogs scored in the first couple of minutes, and they never looked back. The Bulldogs knew that this was going to be a hard-to-win game because of the fierce fighting Irish. They knew Ursuline was going to come into this game hungry from their loss to us last year, 3-0. But, Ursuline had no chance. The Bulldogs kept the ball almost the whole game, not letting the Irish even have a chance to score. This game was very physical, but it was no match for the Bulldogs. With the team’s hard work ethic, they are prepared and ready for anything.
With the team’s determination and fight to win, the Bulldogs are hungry to keep winning games and make it far in their conference. The Bulldogs soccer team has placed big goals for the 2025 season, and they are looking to conquer all of them. With their strong team bond and hard work every day at practice, their goals will come to reality.
