With the closing of schools, end of the year traditions that every graduating class has enjoyed for decades are being missed by the class of 2020, Lakeview’s included. Other area schools have begun honoring their seniors with yard signs and now Lakeview is no exception, thanks to our great community, parents, and school staff.

Allison McGregor, mother of 2020 Senior Sebastian Nutter, alongside LHS principal Lawrence Herrholtz made sure Lakeview’s Class of 2020 did not go unnoticed.

McGregor said she didn’t come up with the idea on her own but was willing to make it happen.  “Another parent sent me a picture of signs from another local school for their seniors,” McGregor said. “I told her I loved the idea and would make a few calls.”

That next day she called Herrholtz and the ball was rolling.

McGregor said there weren’t any hurdles that she came across.

The process was amazing,” she said. “I called about pricing on Monday. Tuesday, we had an email about the pricing and two different designs. Wednesday, Mr. Herrholtz picked the design, and Friday I got an email that the signs were done and could be picked up. I was never expecting the process to be so quick. Printer’s Edge made the signs for us. They make a lot of signs for Lakeview athletic groups.”

McGregor said that design for the signs came about very quickly and easily.  “George Rogers (father of Lakeview graduate Zach Rogers) with Printer’s Edge used ideas from both myself and Mr. Herrholtz to design two different custom designs. both the principal and I wanted to make sure the ‘L Star’ was on the sign. Mr. Herrholtz made the final decision on the design.”

The signs are double sided, and of great quality, but who paid for these signs?

McGregory said several groups and people stepped up to make this happen. “The signs were funded by Cortland Lions Club, Cortland residents Randy Antil and David Miller, the Vogt family, the Farr  family, the Mauger family, the Totten family, Printer’s Edge and also a generous donation from an anonymous donor, plus money from the senior class fund.”

Seniors in the Lakeview Class of 2020 will receive their signs along with caps and gowns Thursday, April 23rd, from 10-1 behind the high school.
