Girls Tennis Serves Up a Fun Season

Abbey Leonard, editor

The 2020 girls tennis season was one like never before, graduating two seniors, Abbey Leonard and Christine Innocenzi, who tried to make the best of the crazy times.

The Lady Bulldogs celebrated their senior night Monday, September 21, on their newly redone home courts at Willow Park.

With a small team of 8 varsity players and one junior varsity player, the team of three freshmen, three juniors, and two seniors is a very tight-knit group.

Captain for the team, Christine Innocenzi holds the winning record for the team as well as being one of the strongest players.

Both of the seniors expressed their feelings about the difference in this season in which they worked hard to maintain a positive atmosphere and continue to have fun.

Innocenzi led her teammates into each competition saying, “They are tough, but we’ve got this ladies.”

The girls finished their season out on October 5th when 5 members of the team attended the 2020 NE8 sectionals and where they faced their toughest competition yet.

Junior Molly Stein will attended for the third year in a row as a singles player. When asked how she feels about her chances she wasEver the optimist, Stein said,  “I’ve been working hard and I know my capabilities but in the end, I’m just here to have fun!”

Junior Olivia Yuhas joined Innocenzi in sectionals as a doubles team. Both girls enjoy working together.

Junior Anna Rider accompanied Leonard in sectionals as the Lady Bulldog’s second doubles team. The girls have been playing together for three years and Rider says, “We play hard, we work as a team, and we have so much fun while doing it!”

Congratulations Lakeview girls tennis team on surviving the Covid season!
