Lakeview pep rallies are underway, last week being in a country fashion, preparing everyone for the football game which took place later that night. The pep rally wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the cheer team, band, football players, staff, and students.
Lakeview’s first pep rally was in preparation for the first home football game of the season, Lakeview vs. Liberty with a theme that brought lots of excitement to the student body, country. The pep rally started with the band, majorettes, and cheerleaders, marching through the halls, dancing and playing instruments as the students joined in behind, marching to the gym.
When asked what she and the cheer team did to prepare for the pep rally cheerleader Addison Briell commented, “We organize a game plan and write it out, then we come up with a game and gather volunteers from each grade. Next we assign everyone the tasks and speeches they will be giving at the pep rally, and finally we make signs and decorations.”
After the students found their spots on the bleachers, the cheer team made their speeches and then announced the football players. The band and majorettes then started playing and dancing again while the football team ran out of the locker rooms, getting everyone excited for the game that took place later that night. Then the football coach and some players gave speeches and then the cheerleaders took over once again and announced who was to compete in this week’s game.
The game in the first pep rally was a very creative game, made up by the cheer team that correlated with this week’s theme, country. The game consisted of a student from each grade, a teacher, a football player, a band member, a majorette, and a cheerleader. In the race, you had to gallop down the gym, spin around with a hula hoop, then pick up the ball and gallop all the way back, putting the ball into a basket at the other end of the gym first in order to win. It was down to the final two, Freshman Luke Dempsey, and Sophomore Tyler Holbrook where Luke Dempsey got the win in the first pep rally game.
When asked why she and her cheer teammates work so hard to prepare and set up for the pep rally Sophomore Adison Lenox comments, “We work extremely hard on planning and setting up for the pep rally because it brings a lot of school spirit to the student body especially with the fun games we plan. We come up with games that we think will get people excited and pumped up before the football game. By making people want to participate and have fun in the pep rallies, it gets more people interested in going to the football games.”
The second pep rally was in preparation for the Lakeview vs. Niles game, but also the Lakeview homecoming game where they introduced the homecoming court, and had a fun reveal of teacher king and queen who students voted as science teacher Josh Murphy and English teacher Jenna Hogue. At the game the theme was the usual homecoming theme, blackout. I’m very excited to see what the cheerleaders have planned next for us because the work they put into the pep rallies is incredible.
When asked about what he thinks of the pep rallies Principal Lawrence Herrholtz commented, “The cheerleaders and their planning with the pep rallies have been outstanding. The student body’s having fun with them so far and so are the teachers that are on duty. I love the participation level of everybody and every grade participating, which was one of the goals. The time the cheerleaders and cheer advisors put into this shows so to me, I love them and they’re doing great.”
