Nicholas Facciolo is an alumni turned teacher who had been instructing Lakeview’s 8th grade class prior to his move into the high school. Nowadays he can be found teaching 8th grade algebra 1, pre-algebra, and geometry. He had gained his degree with a bachelor’s in mathematics at Miami University in Oxford Ohio and continued his education receiving a master’s. Subsequently, he decided to return to his origins and start teaching at Lakeview! It has been a relatively easy change for Facciolo as this is not his first rodeo at the high school! He had actually been working at the high school before deciding to put his efforts into teaching 8th grade full time!
There are a ton of things factoring into Facciolo’s move. Many people are excited for Facciolo’s return, students and teachers alike. So, I think it’s important to talk about how the transfer occurred, people’s opinion, and the ups and downs of it all.
Facciolo stated, “The transfer to the high school has been smooth for myself due to knowing most of the staff and students already from teaching at the high school in the past. Everyone has been welcoming and accommodating with the questions and changes from when I was here before.”
Additionally, students are excited for Facciolo’s return. Though some don’t really know him yet, most are so glad to be lucky enough to have him as their teacher.
Sophomore Bailey Knauff said, “I’ve never had Mr. Facciolo before this year so I am kind of excited to get to know him as a teacher. I heard a lot of good things from my friends about Mr. Facciolo. Plus I’m curious on what his class will be like in the coming future. He seems like a cool teacher so far.”
Despite many’s excitement for the new school year with him, Facciolo does have one concern bugging his mind. More specifically, about the transfer of his previous students into his classroom.
Facciolo said, “Every year brings its own unique challenges. My biggest concern has been trying to remember all of the students from the past 3 years. From 8th grade students change so much that it is hard to recognize some of their faces when I see them in the hallway.”
This problem had already been brought to light during launch day. It’s hard enough being new to the school, remembering faces is a completely different problem.
Knauff said, “The first thing Mr. Facciolo said to me during launch day was about not remembering anybody’s names. Then right after he apologized for not remembering what mine was, which was funny considering I’ve never had him before.”
Many students have gotten to know Facciolo already and are excited to get to know him as a teacher. Next, Facciolo brings up what he is most excited for this year.
Facciolo said, “I am excited to see how the 8th grade is incorporated into the high school fold and to see them all adjust to the differences between the buildings.”
Other teachers such as Art teacher Jeff Piper had a similar thought process about the eighth grade. However, he had a slightly different perspective.
Piper said, “I haven’t taught eighth graders in twenty years, so it’s eye-opening to see the immaturity of eighth graders but I’m excited to see how they grow as well, especially with Facciolo as a teacher.“
Everything is going great so far, with the addition of the new eighth graders we get to meet new teachers and gain new experiences. We are so ecstatic to have Facciolo back as a teacher and we look forward to what is to come!
