As the Friday Night Lights start back up, the student section is having a lot of fun getting involved this year. Our student section is where all the school spirit starts from. Getting everyone hyped up before the games along with at the games. There is never a dull moment in the student section, at all times someone is cheering. The Lakeview football team has been doing a great job so far this year, with them winning 3 games out of 4.
This new season our cheerleaders and student section have been incorporating much more with each other than in past years. At every game the student section and cheerleaders get a picture together, with the sign the cheerleaders made to match the theme. The cheerleaders also have been more involved in dressing the themes this year, so our school looks more as one.
Senior cheerleader Clover Wagner said, “This year the cheerleaders and the student section have become more involved. As cheerleaders we like to cheer by our student section and cheer with them. When the student section chants, we chant with them. When we do crowd cheers, the student section does them back to us. Also at the end of each game that we win, the cheerleaders will start the ‘I believe that we have won’ chant and the student section will join in and we all chant together to celebrate the win. Moving on, my favorite theme for this football season has got to be jersey because that’s one theme where us cheerleaders can fully participate in clothing wise because we have cheer jerseys and I think it’s fun to see everyone including the cheerleaders all wearing the same thing. It really makes the school spirit feel strong.”
Not only is this the seniors last season being in the student section and cheering on the bulldogs, but it is also the freshman’s first year in the student section. The freshmen were shy at first, but as the season goes on they get more school spirit. The one thing that the freshman and every grade is good about is dressing the themes. We have some newer themes this year and also some are the same. The first four themes were USA, Jersey, Country, and Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler is one of the newer ones, but it definitely got lots of participation. For the following games the themes are black out, disco, camo, pink out, halloween, and neon. Let’s hope the next themes are going to get as much participation as the first four have.
Freshman Mya Davies said, “I love getting to be a part of the student section this year, it is more than what I imagined it to be. I am most excited for the pink out theme.”
Our student section leaders seniors Ashley Solis, Jack Peterson, Dylan Clements, and Kyle Senkowitz have done a really good job leading the student section. They make sure at all times everyone is cheering. It is a great thing to be able to have people like this, so they can encourage others to have school spirit.
Solis says, “I look forward to every Friday night, and they are my favorite. I love losing my voice and running the flag everytime we get a touchdown. Out of everything my favorite part is being surrounded by my friends all night. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
The school, as a whole, is trying their very best to be one and have school spirit. The new student section leaders have been a wonderful asset to our student section this year. There has been a huge improvement in school spirit all around with many more people participating.
