Lora Comichisto is an 8th grade Intervention Specialist. Although this is her first year at Lakeview, she spent 4 years at Champion High School and 2 years at Lordstown High School as part of the intervention teams. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist from Notre Dame College, as well as a degree in Early Childhood Education from DePauw University.
Many students, including 8th grader Kyleigh Kasiewicz, praise Comichisto’s classroom saying that it is, “relaxing, and you can’t really be stressed when you are in there.”
Comichisto prides herself in making her classroom a comfortable place for all students to come and go. She allows students to utilize her classroom for more than schoolwork, opening them up to a new way of learning. She has luxurious chairs, coupled with footrests and various lights. Just walking into her classroom will give you the feeling of home away from home. It truly changes the way you look at school when you spend some time there.
Eighth grader Paisley Russo says that, “She lets me put my cheer bag in her room when I don’t have enough room in my locker.”
Another student claims, “It is one of the very few classes [where] I can just relax and take a breath. It is very quiet with few distractions.”
One student goes as far as saying, “she is the best teacher I’ve ever had,”
Comichisto is also one of the lucky few to have air conditioning, something absolutely necessary in the early weeks of the year. Comichisto states that, “The air conditioning started working at the right time! It was nice on those 90 degree days to have a little relief from the heat.”
In addition to her cozy classroom, Comichisto also has various fruits and vegetables available to all. She says, “I keep fruit in my room so that students have access to healthy foods at any point during the day, no questions asked. You can’t learn if you are hungry, so I make sure basic needs are met so that I can feed their brains along with their bellies.”
From personal experience, I can assure you that she will keep your belly full.
Student Mason Richardson has become the biggest client in Comichisto’s fruit industry. He states, “I like that she helps when we need it, and I like how there are apples and fruit in her class. A also like how I get to talk to my friends in there.”
Being tucked away from the bulk of the other rooms, Comichisto’s classroom can be hard to spot . Despite this, countless students are seen coming and going all day.
In addition to having her own classroom, she can also be found assisting Nicholas Facciolo’s 7th period math class. This is where most students get to have hands-on assistance from her. Her help is the biggest reason that students love her. One student claims “Mrs. Comichisto’s class is nice because she is extremely helpful when you need or ask for it, and she helps you through everything slowly.”
With Comichisto in the building, rising high-school students will be well prepared for the struggle and challenges. The transition from 8th grade to 9th grade is one of the hardest, but with Comichisto’s help, students will pass with flying colors. Students will have a newfound comfort with access to her room at all times, giving them a beautiful working space for all classes and activities.
As you have probably figured out, Mrs. Comichisto is my mom. With that being said, I can personally assure you that she will excel in this new environment. With what I’ve seen her do as a mother, I promise she will make every kid, not just a better student, but a better person. With promises to help all students, Comichisto will cruise through her first year, working to make all students healthier, more comfortable, and smarter.
