Lakeview’s very own entrepreneurship class runs the well-known school store. This class is taught by Lakeview Business teacher Chris Romano. The store opened Thursday the Twenty-First of September, and profits are already at an all time high. The budget from last year allowed for the school store to buy more products to sell along with additional decorations and entertainment for the room. There is now a bright open sign, a television, and plenty of seating. The store is especially nice for freshmen and sophomores who can’t leave the building. Anyone is welcome to stop in and purchase a snack to refuel during a long day of hard work at school.
Romano said, “The best sellers at the store so far are candy and Gatorade. There are more products of variety for sale now than in the past. We worked hard to completely upgrade the store from last year.”
Students in an entrepreneurship class are assigned weekly time-periods to run the store during their study halls. Responsibilities include keeping track of sales, giving change, and restocking low products. This is a great way to prepare young entrepreneurs for the future who are interested in starting their own business.
The school store promotes Romano’s entrepreneurship class, and can lead to an upcoming career path. Before the school store opened to the rest of the student body, there was a lot of behind the scenes work put into this year’s selection. Every meal, snack, and drink was researched to find which brand produced the most popular interest among the target audience of high schoolers and accumulated enough profit.
Once the class decided on the most beneficial menu for everyone, each and every item was ordered in bulk to stock the shelves. Taste is opinionated, and some things may sell quicker than others. The school store normally restocks on necessary goods around Christmas Break.
Junior Caden Durica mentioned, “My favorite part about running the school store is that I get to socialize with my friends, use the down time as a study hall, and help out my class while I am at it.”
Last year students in charge of running the store had to find ways to keep themselves occupied if business was slow, but this year netflix is able to solve the problem. People can take advantage of this period as a study hall, but if there is no work to do then it is a nice lounge to have with friends. Having a relaxing brain break during the school day can sometimes be essential for students to function at their best ability whether they are running it or stopping in for a little.
Refueling is also important! Sometimes a coffee or a granola bar is essential to energize someone! Waking up early for school everyday can eventually start taking a toll on both students and teachers. As a result, the school store is open to the faculty as well!
Not only does the school store sell food and drinks, but there is also Lakeview Bulldogs Gear for sale! There is a t-shirt stand located by the check-out table. Although this idea returned from last year, there are some new additions! Each week there is a specialty drink selected by members of Romano’s class to promote that specific product and encourage others to try it.
I asked Senior Gianna Ferraro: What is your favorite drink sold at the school store? Gianna stated, “I would say the best drink this year would have to be the Arnold Palmers.”
The school store is very flexible in regards to its customers! It is open every day of the week all day with the exception of lunch time. Prices are kept at an affordable rate in order to help out students while still creating revenue. There are no additional taxes, and the store accepts multiple payment methods. Both cash and card are welcomed to make sure no one is excluded. There is also the possibility that some students new to the school may be nervous to go to a store run by adults they don’t know, so by students running it people may be more comfortable! The school store provides a safe space for people to make new friends, and eat while they are at it!
The school store will be open for the rest of the year, so stop in!
