As of September 23rd, Lakeview’s Band finished their last local band night. The only marching band performance left to perform, other than football games, is the Ohio State performance. This last performance definitely hit the hearts of the seniors.
Jackson High School is one of the biggest schools that Lakeview attends for Band Nights, Jackson was the location of the latest Band Night. It is not every year that Lakeview’s marching band has the chance to go, but many Senior band members were happy to get the chance.
Senior Band Council Member Josh Hudson said, “Jackson is always a cool place to go. We hadn’t been to Jackson in two years, so we were all excited to go back. I’m pretty sure the Jackson Massillon Fans were more excited than we were. Being able to be down on the field and receive the plaque was such a cool experience. Then Luke, Elizabeth, and I were able to stay on the home side and watch Jackson perform, which was such a cool thing to experience. We always have to watch bands from behind, but being able to watch Jackson’s show from the home stands at my last Jackson band night will always be something I remember.”
They performed their new songs that included the cutest majorette and boy band members dance to ever exist! Each majorette was given a dance partner for Go Daddy Oh, and a few of the girls even got to dance with their boyfriends. These are the moments the band members and majorettes will never forget.
Band members are counting down the days to the last official band night, Seniors are heavy-hearted knowing this is their last few performances, and underclassmen hurt while knowing they will have to say goodbye to some of their favorite people.
Senior Majorette Elizabeth Fazekas, “I had a blast at Jackson Band Night. It was probably the best and the saddest band night I’ve been to. I’m going to miss performing our entire show on the field, cheering other bands on as they perform, and being with my fellow majorettes. The majorettes have significantly made this season the best way to end my senior year. I hope to still see them after the season is over and see them perform next season.”
Though Jackson brought a gloomy cloud over the marching band, the music played throughout the night kept Lakeview’s band cheerful. Jackson’s Band Night will leave bittersweet memories behind for all the band members. For some members, this was their last local band night and others were preparing to say goodbye to the seniors.
Sophomore band member Sadie Hertzer said, “I had so much fun playing at the Jackson Band Night, it was my first time performing there because we hadn’t got the chance last year. Unfortunately, I marched off the field with tears in my eyes. Many of my friends in the marching band are seniors, a lot of us play in the same section and I had my friends as my leaders. But after Ohio State and football games, we are nearly done. It will be hard not having them in the marching band next year.”
Many band members that did not want to be quoted, expressed that they were sad but also so happy they still got to play their instruments with friends. They revealed that even though they have a few shows left for football season, the Jackson Band Night surely stirred their emotions.
Their last band performance is on October 14, 2:30 p.m. at The Ohio State University. Try to go watch our magnificent band’s last night dancing and playing their hearts out!
