Through the wins and losses, the Lakeview Cheerleaders cheer their hearts out no matter what. Every week it is a surprise of if it is going to result in a win or a loss, but the cheerleaders always come back with even more energy the next week.
At the beginning of the season the cheerleaders had lots of involvement with the game, their eyes never left the game. As the season went on they started to be more involved with the stands and have fun with that. As the season is coming to an end the cheerleaders have done a great job all the way through. There have been many changes this year though. Ending last year off with 9 graduating seniors was a big adjustment for everyone.
Junior Varsity Cheerleader Addison Briel states, “It’s been a great second year as a varsity cheerleader! Although losing 9 seniors was definitely an adjustment, I love how our team has been able to bond and get to know each other so well. From toilet papering the football players houses, to sharing team dinner, we have all grown as a team! Knowing that next year is my last cheer season is crazy, but I can’t wait to see what senior year brings.”
As you can see from Briel, the cheerleaders aren’t just cheering on the sidelines, but they are always doing things to support the team. They put lots of time and effort outside of Friday nights too. Making door signs for 54 football players, making signs for every game each week, and decorating locker rooms.
Sophomore first year varsity cheerleader Joscelyn Burkey said, “Cheering on varsity this year was super exciting and enjoyable. It was a whole different experience compared to cheering on the freshman squad last year. This year I got to cheer during all the games, help more during the pep rallies, and go out on the field for the welcoming of home games. One of my favorite memories was when the whole varsity squad did team bonding and we went out and toilet papered all the seniors’ houses. Then after we had a sleepover and went to breakfast together in the morning which was super fun. Some things I do to prepare for games is going over the cheers multiple times to make sure I have them all memorized. This season was an unreal experience and I’m looking forward to doing it again next year.”
Not only do the cheerleaders have so much talent individually, but they all are so close that when they come and cheer together they even look better. In every sport team bonding is a huge way to make the team better, and to make it an enjoyable experience. Another thing that the cheerleaders love, along with the rest of the school, is the Friday night lights, and just cheering on our team no matter what.
Junior Katarina Candor says, “Being a high school cheerleader for the first time has been one of my favorite experiences of high school so far. It has definitely been an enjoyable experience and I love how much closer I have gotten with my team. It’s definitely different than I expected because there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that most people don’t realize. The team winning a game is one of the best feelings. I love when everyone comes together as a community to be excited to celebrate the team’s win. The band plays, the majorettes dance, the student section screams, the parents get excited, and we cheer on the sidelines. Although my favorite part of the game would have to be when the team scores and we get to dance to the band playing the fight song.”
Overall the cheerleaders put in tons of effort in and out of practices and games. They work hard to make sure everyone has fun at the games and the pep rallies, along with them always supporting the sports teams.
