On September 15th the Lakeview Bulldogs football team played Niles for the Bulldogs homecoming game. It was a very exciting time for not only the football players but for all the students.
To kick off the Homecoming game Lakeview Bulldogs did their annual King and Queen announcement. Crowned King was Senior Josh Hudson and the Crowned Queen was Senior Izzy Haines. The two were crowned by last year’s king Ethan Baker and Junior Jalyn DeLeon.
I asked Hudson How did you feel in the moment when your name was announced for king? Hudson replied, “It was so sudden it surprised me to hear my name called for king. It was cool having Ethan Barker crown me. I appreciate my classmates voting for me and being able to experience being on the field for court.”
After the crowning the game against Lakeview and Niles begins. The players are ready to put up a fight and make it a great homecoming game.
I asked Senior Captain Sam Gillis what were the Bulldogs expectations for this game and did you meet them? Gillis stated, “We planned to go into this game strong with a good mindset. Although we lost I still had a positive mindset and had to be there for my teammates. At least we had the homecoming dance to look forward to.”
After the first half of the game our Lakeview band put on an amazing performance for us. I asked Senior band member Zoe Baker How does it feel to be able to perform in front of a big crowd? Did the band do anything different for the homecoming game? Baker states, “The homecoming game is always fun so it felt nice to perform in front of a big crowd and have them support us. The only thing we do differently is change up the run-on to make halftime a little more exciting.”
Senior majorette Elizabeth Fazekas also states, “Its such a wonderful experience being out on the field and performing. It’s so fun to perform with a talented group of girls. This experience will be one that I remember forever. For the homecoming game we created this new dance where one of the majorettes got to dance with a band member. The choreography was so fun to practice and I was really happy when we executed well that night.”
Although the Bulldogs took a rough loss against Niles the student section and the players were still having fun. The theme for the student section was blackout and there was a full student section to be there to support the football team.
I asked Student section leader Dylan Clements What was the most enjoyable part about the homecoming game? What did the student section leaders do to make the student section have fun? Clements replied, “Every football game I’ve attended this year has truly been a blast, but the homecoming game was by far the best. And the spirit week leading up to the game, it really boosted the morale of the entire student body. Everyone was excited for homecoming, making memories, and cheering for our football team. In order to make the student section have fun, all of the leaders try to get everyone involved by cheering for the football team, running the flag for a touchdown, and doing chants.”
The student section always knows how to have fun no matter the game situation. The seniors in the student section know how to get the underclassmen to get loud. The student section is always the loudest when the band member steps in and gets the crowd going it is something everyone in the student section will remember.
