It has been tradition for several years for the seniors at Lakeview High to attend a ‘Senior Sunrise’ at the beginning of their last high school year.
This is something all Lakeview seniors look forward to every year! Several students will organize who will bring games, drinks or snacks, and cameras to the sunrise. For example, Ethan Probst, our class president, made the signs at school that promoted this major senior event.
This year, the sunrise event was held at Don Richards Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 6:30 AM.
This sunrise was a success! The weather was just right. It may have been on the chilly side, but the beautiful scenery of the rising sun over the stadium was too beautiful to focus on the temperature.
This annual event represents the start of senior year and starting the year off well.
Senior Izzy Haines brought in a volleyball and her digital camera for her and her classmates to enjoy together.
Haines said, “I was in charge of bringing the volleyball and some drinks for the sunrise. I was so glad to see how many people showed up! I am also really happy with my decision to bring my digital camera. These are the kind of moments all of us will want to look back on.”
Another senior, Samuel Balest, brought in his football.
Balest said, “I thought it would be a really good time for me and my friends, especially since it’s game day.”
Many of the students who attended sat on blankets and hung out with the friends they have made throughout their years at Lakeview.
When asked about the sunrise tradition, senior Zoe Baker said, “I really love it. I think what it represents is really important to me, and to the rest of my classmates. It really sets the tone for the rest of our year together and I’m looking forward to how the rest of the year will play out!”
Senior Elizabeth Fazekas also agrees with Baker when she said, “It was really enjoyable to see everybody and to spend some time with them. With all of the seniors being able to leave early and come in late to school, I barely see my friends. I have been really excited to experience this!”
Senior Clover Wagner also said, “It was a great way to start off the year. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the Lakeview staff did a great job of putting this all together. Mr. Detoro brought in donuts and Mrs. Hogue stopped in and talked with some of her past students. It was such a cool experience and I really can not wait to see what the rest of our senior year has in store for all of us!”
The Senior Sunrise is the first senior activity Lakeview has in store for their final year students. There is still so much left for these students to experience, such as the Sunrise Sunset.
The Senior Sunset takes place at the end of the year, towards graduation. It represents the end of a good year and a good time at Lakeview High School.
The senior Bulldogs should remember that this is just the beginning of the end and to not blink. It will go too fast. Events like the Senior Sunrise are memories that the seniors will hold on to as they go their separate ways throughout their lives.
Good luck 2024 seniors and enjoy the rest of your year!
