It is almost the end of the first quarter and by the end of the second quarter Lakeview’s Seniors who are planning on going to college need to have their applications filled out. Though it is said Senior year is supposed to be fun and less stressful than previous years, there has definitely been stress around applying to college.
Many seniors are confused as to how you apply to college. Even after some guidance from the school, it can still be very confusing. These same seniors also do not know of all the resources provided to help guide them, this can cause issues when applying.
Senior Dylan Clements said, “I started applying to colleges a little while ago, I however did not realize what early decision was. I thought I was just applying early, but later on, someone explained that an early decision means I commit to a school. I applied to Westminster’s early decision by accident and was kind of freaking out. I finally got it all figured out though, I e-mailed them explaining the situation. I still made it in, but I am no longer required to attend Westminster.”
Not only do they not know when or how to apply to college, they don’t know where to apply. Some seniors visited the colleges they want to potentially attend over the summer, while others were just getting started.
Not only are students stressing over applying to college, but they are also looking for what they want to do with their lives. While Lakeview’s seniors are unsure of the foreseeable future, they do know they have to start applying.
So, how did these seniors apply? Was it easy? Where are they going?
Senior Clover Wagner said, “When it came to the college application process, I applied through the common app. I felt the majority of the process was easy, but one of the parts that confused me was getting my transcript. I found the answer to my question by looking at our Lakeview Senior Google Classroom and by asking our guidance counselor. When I filled out the common app, I already knew what schools I was going to apply to. Some of these schools are Hiram, Mount Union, Earlham, Akron University, and so many more! My mom helped me apply, it was an easy enough process because she had already done this in 2019 with my older brother. When it comes to confusion, it was quick and easy to find an answer via the many resources Lakeview provides. I am very excited about this next big step. I am excited to see where I get accepted!”
Some of these students really don’t have a clue what they are going to be doing with the next few weeks of their lives let alone what they are going to do for the next few years of their lives.
Senior Gigi Ferraro said, “I haven’t even begun the process of applying to any college. To be honest, I don’t even really know what I want to do. I have an interest in forensic psychology, but I also have an interest in working with animals. Both of those interests are very far apart from each other, I know I should start applying soon but I just don’t know where I want to go or what I want to do.”
Even with the help of teachers, parents, and guidance counselors, making this big step in a senior’s life can be very scary and nerve-racking. Many seniors are unsure of their life after senior year, but there is definitely excitement in the future.
Obviously with this excitement comes some anxiety because it’s new, but it is a good type of new. Thinking of what Lakeview’s seniors will move on to do in the world is more exciting than graduating!
