Ski club is a very popular club among many students within Lakeview High School. With meetings starting to come up again, members of the club are starting to feel the excitement rise. The first meeting for ski club is going to be October 23rd, so if you are thinking about participating in ski club this year, I would suggest going to that meeting! Chemistry teacher Joshua Murphy is one of the leaders in ski club, so if you are in one of his classes, you should ask him about it. There are other teachers as well in ski club such as John Terbovich and Jeff Piper. Although ski club doesn’t start in January, the preparation starts now! If you are on the fence about ski club, I got some quotes from past members of the club and their insight about the club,
A senior member of the club, Ty Goyzueta, had this to say about the club, “I am really looking forward to ski club this year. Last year I did ski club for the first time and I had so much doing it. Everything about the club was fun. Even the bus rides were fun because I had the opportunity to interact with my friends on the way there. Having friends who also did the club definitely made the experience better but I’m sure I would’ve still had fun even if I had no friends in the club.”
Ty also said that, “If you don’t want to do ski club because you don’t have friends doing it, don’t let that stop you from participating. You will make friends in ski club and the reality is if you do ski club, there’s a high chance that your friends will follow you and do it as well.”
Another senior member, Dylan Clements, said that, “Ski club was definitely one of the best activities I did my junior year. I had a friend who was a senior at the time convince me that I should participate in it. So I did and I’m so happy I did. I went into the club with the mindset ‘you only live once’ because I had never tried to ski before. Despite it being my first time ever skiing, I caught on pretty quick and still had lots of fun. So even if you don’t know how to ski or snowboard, you should still do it because if I can learn how to do it, you definitely can learn as well. I definitely plan on participating in ski club again this year and recommend it to anyone who wants to. So if you’re on the fence about ski club, just go head first into it and you will not regret your decision.”
Finally, one last senior member, Michael Moats, shared his insight on ski club, “Ski club is easily one, if not the best club in Lakeview high school. It is such a great feeling just snowboarding or skiing on the slopes with a bunch of friends. I had friends who did it with me last year and we had so much fun together. The best part about ski club is simply just being with your friends and making your own fun. The cool thing about ski club is that you don’t always have an adult looking over your shoulder and babysitting you. Once you get there and get situated, you’re able to go off and do your own thing. I will definitely be doing ski club again this year and I hope we have more people join the club as well.”
I hope these quotes from these members will help your decision on doing ski club.
