It’s that time of year! The Lakeview Band season has finally commenced. Football does not only revolve around the game, but the halftime show as well! The Marching band has been perfecting their crafts since this summer, practicing their performance in the blazing hot sun. All their hard work has finally paid off, allowing them to stand out at band night.
Now that the football season is almost over, many Lakeview fans have gotten a chance to watch the marching band perform! Lakeview High School hosted their very own band night, allowing students all over to show off their impressive skills. For the show, the band played several songs from the 90s, which was the theme of the night. The song choices varied from smooth jazz to hard rock, such as “Wherever I May Roam” by Metallica. Junior Tommy Pavlansky plays the saxophone in the school band. He says that the best part of band night is “the opportunity to do our ‘Hey Band!’ cheer before our performance. I always try to lose my voice!” Pavlansky also adds that “hosting a band night at Lakeview was very exciting because not many schools get to have that opportunity. It also allows us to show who we are as Lakeview bulldogs!” This goes to show that there are many different aspects during this event and that band night was more than successful!
Pavlansky wasn’t the only musician that commented on the event, but junior William Bullock (drum major) did as well. When discussing the turnout of the performance, Bullock states: “It’s always fun to go play in front of a crowd like that, especially at our home stadium.” Having a huge turnout not only helped the musicians, but the fundraising as well! Seeing that most members had to pay to watch the show, boosters were able to raise money for the band program.
As some may know, Chelsea Dean, a junior at Lakeview High School, plays a huge roll in the marching band. Dean is the trombone section leader, squad leader, and drum major. She has been working with the marching band for three years now, becoming a major key in their outstanding performance. When discussing the Lakeview band night, Dean claims that she loves playing in front of fans. When asked about playing in front of the crowd, she said, “It’s very thrilling to be apart of. I’m always nervous when I first run out onto the field, but once I get up to the podium everything clicks. Hearing the sound of the band in front of me is something I will always cherish. Having an extra boost of adrenaline always helps keep the energy high.” Considering this, it is no surprise that band night was a huge success!
The band is more than just a group of musicians, but a family as well. Junior Ashley Graczyk, a fellow member in the marching band states that her most favorite part of the marching band is the family within. Graczyk says that “all 94 of us put in so much time, hard work, energy, and frankly a big part of ourselves into band. We all work together towards making our show the best it can possibly become. We love each other and we really are a family. I’ve met some of my closest friends in band, and they are some of the most kind, hardworking, caring people in my life. Every one of us are incredibly passionate with what we’re doing.” For some people, the marching band can form new relationships that could last a lifetime.
Football seasons revolve around more than just the game, but the band as well. The amount of hard work and dedication put into this program can be overlooked, but everyone should appreciate the efforts put into the amazing show. Majorettes are a huge factor in the marching band as well! While the band plays beautifully behind them, the majorettes dance their hearts away, impressing the crowd. The costumes are always creative and unique to the songs being played. Overall, the 2023 Lakeview band night was another great achievement to add to the books!
