When the leaves begin to change colors, fall sports have just begun. The boys and girls golf team has started their seasons off pretty well, playing long matches in the bitter weather. The teams have been practicing since the summer, preparing themselves for the fierce competition they faced. All their hard work paid off, for Lakeview golf made it to sectionals
The girls varsity golf team consisted of 6 players, this including: juniors Addie Nicholas, Cassie Klotz, Lily Bell, and Haley Bowser, along with sophomore DJ Godfrey, and freshman Parker Morris.
When asking Nicholas about her experience on the golf team this year, she states: “I always love golf because of the environment. The team is always a great factor, and so is the weather! One of the best qualities of golf season is the ability to go outside and play a relaxing sport with my friends. This year, we played some good matches, but no one qualified for districts.” Considering this, it is no question that this season was a huge success.
Nicholas wasn’t the only player that enjoyed sectionals, but Klotz did as well! When asking Klotz about her golf career, she says: “I’ve been playing since freshman year and it’s one of those things I have looked forward to every year. Our school’s golf program is one that I love because yes, winning a match always feels good, but what’s more prioritized is having fun. There are definitely times where I want to give up and quit, but I think my coach and teammates have made me think otherwise and I’m so grateful for them!” From this, it is clear that the girls golf team is about more than just winning, but positivity as well.
The girls golf team wasn’t the only team with a great season, but the boys team as well. The boys golf team went very far this season, even making it to districts. This years roster for the varsity team was seniors Jack Peterson, Cooper Schiavone, Ethan Probst and Ty Chamberlin, along with junior Jason DeMonica, and sophomore Will Kirila. Peterson, being one of the seniors on the team, states that “we had a fun season with some really good rounds and even better times. I couldn’t have asked for a better senior season, getting to play alongside Jason DeMonica. It was electric to see him go so far. Overall this was a good round.” This goes to show that golf is more than just a game, but a bonding experience as well.
DeMonica was a key factor on the golf team as well. Being the only player that made it to districts, he claims the experience was unforgettable. DeMonica states that his season had “many ups and downs, but overall it was a great time. I had never achieved something like going to districts in my golf career, so being the one player to represent Lakeview was a huge honor. I wish I could have done better, but the experience was something I’m forever grateful for.” DeMonica played a huge role in the boys golf season this year, and will continue to for the rest of his career.
After all is said and done both golf teams had great success within this years season. Golf is not an easy sport to play, so everyone should recognize the hard work and dedication it takes to leave a mark like Lakeview golf can. All players who participated in golf this year deserve to know they made an impact in helping the golf program flourish. One thing that comes out of both teams is the idea of friendship and family. Without teams like this, it wouldn’t have been possible to make it as far as districts.
