This year, the Lakeview Bands hosted their annual band parade. The band decided to play the songs “Zombie” and “Cranberries”.
First, they gathered at the Middle School with their instruments and started their lineup. When the band got into position and were ready, they headed on their way. The band marched down Greenbriar onto Lakeview Drive until they made it back to the high school. Once they returned to the high school, they formed a line on the field and followed their usual routine.
The Lakeview Band had hosted the Marines for “toys season”. Toys season is their community outreach for families to donate toys for the ones in need. The band does this everywhere and this year it was a blast.
Planning for the Halloween parade is not easy. The band not only has to march and practice their songs but they have to figure out what costume they dress up in too! Each section of the band has unique ideas. They have to figure out what they are doing and find a way to execute their costume ideas.
During this time, some of the band members go into great detail.
Sophomore Emily Mazur describes, “My favorite part about the Halloween parade was seeing the community come together to watch us perform. I am looking forward to next year’s parade and planning our group costume. My group decided to be Teletubbies because of how easy it was to color-coordinate us! We started planning in September and ended up having everything planned right on time. All of the songs we played after the parade were songs we spent time learning at band camp in July and continued daily practice to perfect the performance.”
The Band has used what they know all the way back from band camp!
Sophomore Landon Baker, “My Favorite part of the band parade was probably seeing all the people and the kids that were lined up along the streets to watch us march. I will do the band parade again next year because I enjoy getting in costume and making people smile. Our group chose our costumes based on the songs we call ‘Zombies’ and ‘Cranberries’. It did not take long to plan it because all we had to do is march and then he told us the songs that we would play on the field, there wasn’t really anything new. For the songs that we did play, we had a lot of music rehearsals during the school day and outdoor practices every Monday and Wednesday.”
The band was diligent in practicing during their school day and dedicated additional time on Mondays and Wednesdays to ensure everything went smoothly.
Senior Abigail Sulc added, “Getting to see students, kids, and the community dressed up was my favorite part. It was more exciting than sad because I knew it wouldn’t be my last time on the field and it was fun playing songs from all season. During a meeting with another school’s band council, I did my introduction and someone thought they heard me call myself Batman so we took that Idea and asked the rest of the section about going as Marvel / DC characters. Our section had to decide on costumes we had to review some drills from earlier in the season but there wasn’t too much to plan for it. Practices were cut off once the regular football season ended so all we had to do was run through a few drills during the Friday practice before the parade.”
Regardless of whether it was their last year or their first, the band members ensured they had positive outlooks on their parade.
