On September 26th, the Lakeview boys cross country team was able to get their first whole team win since 1996! The cross country team consists of seniors Jaden Kropp, Joshua Hudson, and Evan Hyde. Next we have juniors Luke Whitmore, Anthony Marble-Salem, Mason Wheeler, Ethan Shackleford, Marcus Grube, Griffin Oravec, Trenton Miller, and Jake Langmayer. Finally, we have the rest of the team which is Bryson Richardson, Zane Johnson, Leo Rice, and Nick Seikel. These boys were able to experience a great win during this race. Here is what some of the boys on the team had to say about the win.
Junior Luke Whitmore said that, “There was one goal that day and it was to beat South Range. The guys were hoping that the race would be rainy and muddy because we wanted a battlefield to race on. When race day finally came, we got exactly what we had wanted. The team had packed up very strong that day and there was nothing any other team could do about it. After maintaining the same energy and being packed the whole race, it was clear that we had won it. Let me just say that after the race, the energy was something I had never experienced. Everyone was jumping and celebrating and it was such an amazing feeling. Now that we have won county, there is one more big goal we all have in mind… and that goal is states. We are going to work harder than ever and will do out very best to achieve that goal.”
Senior cross country runner Josh Hudson commented that, “Winning county was pretty cool. It is something that the Lakeview cross country team has not done since the year 1996. And let me just say that it feels really good to bring that county win back to Lakeview. We have a very strong and very competitive cross country team this year and I would say that we are definitely making a name for ourselves in the cross country world. I for one, am very happy that I have opportunity to be apart of Lakeview history in my high school years. This win and this team is something I will definitely not take for granted. I am very happy and grateful I was able to be apart of this team with such a good group of guys.”
Finally, another senior runner, Evan Hyde, mentioned that, “We had worked very hard all year to get this far. All of the work we put into practice during the off-season and summer, we were not going to let that work go to waste. When we got to the meet, as expected, it was bad weather. The clouds were dark, rain was falling, the grass started to become muddy, however, we were not going to let that stop us. After grinding and pushing each other throughout the whole meet, we had won it. We won the first county win for Lakeview since 1996 and let me just say, it felt really good to accomplish that. I am very happy I was able to experience that win with all my friends on the team. As a senior on the team, I am very grateful to go out with a big win to not only my name, but the entire team.”
Overall, this was not only a big win for the cross country team, but for the entire Lakeview school. Make sure that if you see someone from the team in the hallways or in your class, make an effort to congratulate them. They definitely do not get the recognition they deserve. Good job to the cross country boys and we will be rooting for you guys!
