Angela Sarko, previously known as only a Communications, Publications, Speech, and College Writing I and American Literature and Diversity teacher, has taken over as Lakeview High School’s librarian. She still continues to head our publications team; however, she has ceased her position as a communications teacher at this time.
Before Sarko, our librarian was Andria Morningstar-Gray. She served us well in her time here, and for that, we will always be grateful. We were able to move on thanks to Sarko. She has implemented some positive changes in the library thus far. For example, it’s more organized than ever. Junior Rachel Clark confirms this.
She claims, “The library is a great place to efficiently study, read, and work on projects. It is extremely organized, and the system set up by Mrs. Sarko is great for the flow of our high school. Walking into the library is like a breath of fresh air, and I am grateful for the Lakeview staff that make the library so welcoming.”
Similarly, junior Raelynn Hall comments, “A positive change that has been made to the library is the organization. Mrs. Sarko does a great job with managing the students that come to the library for study hall so it doesn’t get too crowded.”
Although we were sad to see Morningstar-Gray go, Sarko has proved that she can fill this position just as well. She has already done so many things such as improving organization and simply keeping everyone in line. We know she will continue in her pursuit to better our school’s library. I inquired about Sarko’s intentions for the remainder of the school year.
She proclaims, “For the media center, I hope to learn more about cataloging and ordering of new books. I want to continue the practices that Mrs.Morningstar-Gray started, and always keep a fresh supply for our active readers. We’re working on getting our Makerspace up and running and doing more with the 3D printer and Virtual Reality headsets. With the 8th and 9th graders, I’m starting a reading club. I really want to encourage the younger readers and keep them reading throughout their years of high school. A big part of my job is managing loaner and broken Chromebooks, which is an ongoing aspect that demands my attention, so I plan on continuing doing that.”
From these goals, it can be observed that Sarko is determined in her endeavors for our library. She truly cares for the students here and intends to do whatever she can to further their education and reading knowledge.
Sarko has been an educator at Lakeview Local Schools for 24 years. She taught 9th grade English class for 1 year, 1 year of 8th grade reading, 3 years of 8th grade English, 2 years of 11th grade English, and 8 years of AP English. Also, she taught 19 years of speech, about 6 years of the College Writing and American Literature and Diversity class, and going on 6 years of the Publications class. Sarko has also been the Lakeview Sr. Beta Club Adviser since 2003. Before working here, she graduated from Lakeview High School in 1982. Sarko received her Bachelor’s degree in 1987, her Master’s in 2000, her AP certification in 2003, and her CCP certification in 2016. The college she attended was YSU. She started her careerĀ at a junior high school in Brandon, Florida as a drama and English teacher for four years. However, she does enjoy working here more. Considering she grew up in this school and environment, it is more familiar and comfortable to her.
Her prior experience as a teacher in this school has assisted her greatly as she works to fill our needs in the media center. This is because she previously had a large portion of the students at Lakeview in a class of her own. The connection she has already established with many of us works to her advantage. We are so grateful to Sarko for stepping up and being our guide in the media center, and we know she’ll always be there to help in any way she possibly can.
