Lakeview High School holds a few pep rallies each football season to honor our teams. The pep rallies usually include the cheerleaders performing cheers, the band playing music, and the cheerleaders and football players playing games. However, this was the last one of the 2023 school year. Lakeview’s pep rally was in preparation for the Lakeview vs. Hubbard game, in which we announced senior superlatives and played Bulldog Buddies.
However, the process leading up to this was not easy. Cheerleader Katarina Candor says, “We organized a final pep rally to mark the end of the football season. A lot of time and effort went into planning this event, which was focused on the seniors. On the day of the pep rally, we had to set up the clever touch with the superlative slide show. We checked all the certificates to ensure accuracy. Finally, during the pep rally, all the cheerleaders lined up and created a spirit tunnel for the superlative winners to walk through. Apart from announcing the senior superlatives, we also included our ideas. For this pep rally, we developed the theme of Bulldog Buddies and limited participation to seniors, making it a special event for their final year. The game required pairs to recreate various poses. It was a fun experience for all, especially the seniors!”
Everyone agreed the pep rally was exciting, but senior Elisa Kotsatos found it bittersweet, she states, “I had a really great time at the pep rally. However, it was bittersweet for me since it was my last year at Lakeview. Nevertheless, I enjoyed celebrating with my best friends after winning two senior superlatives, which were “best hair” and “life of the party.” Among the superlatives I was nominated for, I felt that these two suited me the best. In my opinion, everyone deserved their superlatives as they fit them perfectly.”
Even from an outside perspective, this pep rally was one of the better ones. Junior Ava Bacon says, “From an outside perspective, this pep rally really made me value our class. Seeing the seniors get together made me excited to see what this next year holds for us. It was fun seeing what everyone won, but it was upsetting knowing some of my friends wouldn’t be at Lakeview next year. I also think that the games this year really helped increase our spirit. Bulldog Buddies was one of my new favorites and I’d love to see it be reused next year!”
While the superlatives were bittersweet, Bulldog Buddies managed to get the student’s energy up. Senior Sam Gillis says, “It was fun being able to participate in the game with my close friend Sam Balest. Sam and I dominated the game and were able to get our first win of the day. We helped bring high energy to the team, which later carried on to the football game. Throughout our senior night, we held high energy and ended up beating Hubbard. This was an important win, and helped us get into the playoff game.”
Lakeview congratulates the superlative winners, and wishes the football team luck on their final games!
