As of October 19, 2023, Senior Beta has officially started its first of many fundraisers and events for the year. With Senior Beta membership increasing in size, there was a need for fundraisers to accomplish their goals.
The first fundraiser is Snap Raise. Snap Raise essentially has each Beta member make an account, enter 20 e-mails to family, friends, or colleagues, and ask those people for donations. Snap Raise is a simple and effective way to gain donations.
The goal is to raise $5,000 to help pay for transportation to the annual Beta Convention in Columbus, Ohio. So far, the fundraiser is more than halfway to that goal.
With so many more active participants in Beta Club, it has been an active pursuit to try and get as many students to go to this amazing opportunity! Because of this pursuit, there are projects and more fundraisers lined up to help students pay for the Convention so that money is not a reason that otherwise eligible members can’t go.
Lakeview librarian Angela Sarko, the Beta Club adviser, got in touch with Christina Benton, the owner of Just Pizzelles, to find a way that Sr. Beta members can help out with the Cortland Christmas tree lighting event scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend. Talks are still in the works for that opportunity.
Becoming more involved in the Cortland community is both a short and long term goal of Sr. Beta. The Marketing and Communications group are hoping to present their involvement in this project to a board of judges at the 2023-2024 Beta Convention in just one of the many competitions.
Sarko says, “Club officers Lillian McCarthy and Abigail Sulc have been working to bring some fresh ideas such as the tree lighting involvement and others to revive our club.”
Sometime in November, Beta Club will be selling Daffins’ Candy Bars. This is always the perfect fundraiser to do, as many students are able to sell to teachers and classmates. Students will also be to take their boxes home over Thanksgiving Break to try to sell to family members. They can even try to persuade their parents to take a box to work!
Another fun food fundraiser is pepperoni rolls all the way from That’s a Wrap in Salem. The goal is to sell at least 400 rolls or 67 packs. Each pack is 13 dollars and 6 rolls come in a pack. This is a pre-paid fundraiser with Beta members taking orders and collecting money, and then on December 11th or 12th, the rolls will be delivered to the High School and members will pass them out fresh to buyers.
Sarko said, “This is the first time in many years that we have done any type of fundraising to help pay for our trip, but the last few years have really drained our account with too few members joining and sharing in the expenses.”
Senior Beta Council Member, Abby Sulc says, “It’s exciting trying to put new fundraisers together. I am looking forward to the Ohio Beta Convention and I am hopeful that we raise a significant amount of money to help pay for student fees. This will also raise the incentive for more students to attend the convention if they are not already planning on it.”
Taking a look into the far-ish future, Senior Beta Club is planning a fun Activity Night! On January 12th, the Lakeview High School’s front doors will be unlocked at 3 p.m. for all who want to enjoy the Beta Activity Night. Around 3:30 pm our activities for all ages will begin.
“Their idea for the activity night is completely different than anything we’ve ever put together and we hope to attract different groups of people to enjoy fun events like a trivia contest, bingo, basket raffle, and a few other ideas. It will be just prior to one of our home games so the hope is that some of that group will move on down to the game and support our team. We are also looking for it to be a benefit, rather than a fundraiser, since we’ve been so successful in our club fundraising so far. One of our ideals is Service to Others and it would be great if this activity could raise money for a worthy cause. Lillian is looking into possible charities to support.”
The plan is to have bingo, trivia with multiple age groups, basket raffles, coloring for younger children, and snacks for all to enjoy. Tickets to enjoy this wonderful event will be sold at the door for 3 dollars, and members will be selling tickets for a basket raffle. Snacks are also in the plans.
