A good season for the cross country boys comes to an end. With the hopes of making it to state this year, unfortunately that was not able to happen. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that this was still a fantastic season for the team. Let’s see what some runners on the team had to say about the season.
Junior Luke Whitmore said, “Honestly, it was a heartbreaking defeat for everyone at the regional meet that day. Everyone on the team had worked so hard since July all the way up to the very last match and it felt like all of the hard work and training we did amounted to nothing. But we were reminded by Coach Voorhies at the end of the meet that the season was not in fact, not a failure. The team as a whole was able to accomplish so many goals and achievements, such as winning districts, and looking back on the season, it was a really good ride with these boys. This loss will give us motivation for training this summer and next year as a team. The future is so bright for the team and we’re already looking forward to our next summer of training and getting ready for the next season.”
Junior Griffin Oravec said, “It was honestly a little disappointing that we were not able to get out of regionals because we had such an amazing team and also just a great season overall. The amount of talent we had on the team was so good and I really thought we were going to be able to make it t0 state this year. Unfortunately, that was not able to happen. However, Coach told us to not let that take away from how much we had accomplished this year as a team. We made it so far as a team and at least we were able to win the district tournament this year for Lakeview. However, we will be ready for track though this year and my our best and come back better for cross country next year. ”
Senior Jaden Kropp said, “This was such an amazing year. With only two years of running with this team, I have been able to grow and form such good relationships with the boys on this team. I am so glad about the opportunity I had to run with this team. Unfortunately, we were not able to advance past regionals this year. That was honestly disappointing but we were not going to let that stray us away from what we have done this year. Winning districts was something that Lakeview has not done in awhile and that was such a good experience. I’m not gonna lie, making it to states would have been so much better but I am happy about the season overall.”
What a season these boys had this year. Although they did not make it to state, they were able to win the district tournament and overall they came in 8th place at regionals! This was a good season this year and I’m sure nobody on the team will take it for granted. Although the season may be over, we have track coming up in the Spring. Most of the boys on the cross country will also be participating in track and they will be ready for that session! Here is an encouragement, if you see a runner form the cross country team in the hallways or in your class, tell them congratulations! They deserve it for the amount of work they put in and how much they did as a team this year.
