The Lakeview Art classes saw a new face during the first semester. Jersey Hogue has volunteered to become an assistant otherwise known as a student teacher to Art teacher Jeff Piper. Hogue’s last day for Lakeview was October 27th but even though she left, she still left an impact on the students. Hogue kindly offered her own time to help and influence students in a positive way.
I personally had the pleasure of asking Hogue a few questions about herself and her future endeavors. I first asked Hogue where she was from and why she chose to pursue art.
Hogue stated, “I graduated from Maplewood, but before that went to Newton Falls. Art is very important to me. Ever since I was young I used to color with crayons and love creating pictures and stories.”
Hogue is local to the area and sees art as a pathway to express stories and ideas. I then asked Hogue what were her goals for being a student teacher.
Hogue stated, “My main goal is to hopefully do well with the kids and want them all to succeed and hopefully do some great things. Another thing is becoming certified and that is also a very important part of becoming a student teacher.”
Having experience around students is crucial to becoming certified as a teacher. Hogue jumped on the opportunity to come to Lakeview to impact students and get some experience as a teacher. I then asked her what she had enjoyed about your stay as a student teacher.
Hogue explains that she “enjoys working with the kids. They always say interesting things and it makes the jobs enjoyable. They are all unique and interesting, and it’s also fun to see what they come up with too, the same group with the same prompt can come up with many different ideas.”
Hogue enjoyed all the students at Lakeview and was impressed with the levels of creativity that these high schoolers can have. Finally, I asked Hogue about what she hoped to do in the future.
Hogue elaborated that she “hopes to continue being an art teacher. I’m not sure if I will go back to school and get a master’s or teach college. But I know I want to be around art in and out of school no matter what.“
While being unsure of what her final goal is within the art goal. Hogue is certain of staying somewhere connected within the art world. The art world has many different paths to take and can lead to many different jobs and places. To get a better understanding of Hogue and her impact I asked many current students about Hogue.
Zach Poptic Lakeview Junior, spoke about how “Ms. Hogue was a great teacher and really showed us students what art was about and how art can bring us kids together as one.”
With her experience being a teacher many students believe she did exceptionally well.
Isaiah Warner, Lakeview Senior, stated that “Miss Hogue was a wonderful teacher who knew how to make your day better, while also teaching you about how amazing art can be.”
Being great at brightening students’ days and being knowledgeable in the art sector are great components of becoming a great art teacher.
Lastly, Jacob Grossman, Lakeview Senior, said, “Even though she wasn’t here for long she was well liked and had a huge impact on us.”
Even though her time was short she was respected and enjoyed by her students.
Hogue is already off to a great start with many students enjoying her presence and teaching style. Hogue got high praise from all the students who spoke about her. Lakeview wishes Hogue a prosperous future and thanks her for her time as a student teacher! Good luck Hogue!
