As fall comes to an end with winter around the corner. The Lakeviews girls basketball team is excited to start their season. This year the team has two seniors Izzy Haines and Makenna Werner. With four sophomores Annabelle Humphrey, Mackenzie Stowe, Isabella Isenberg, and Kalyssa Werner. With 6 freshmen Anna Haynie, Sophie Irwin, Sammi Oravec, Izzy Oravec, Anneliese Dejulio, and Paige Schwartz
The team will have their first game against Brookfield November 22nd. The girls couldn’t be more excited to play.
I asked Senior Makenna Werner, What are your expectations and goals this year for your last year playing Lakeview basketball? Werner stated that “being one of the two seniors on the team, my goal is to be a positive leader both on and off the court. As a team, I know that we can compete every game no matter who we play. We are a very young team but every player on the team has heart which is what really matters. I’m really excited to start this season and see what my final year brings! ”
I also asked varsity assistant Coach Brown What are your expectations for this year’s Basketball team? Who are you most excited to play this season? Brown stated that “I expect us to be highly competitive in every single game this year led by our aggressive defense. I expect a lot of girls to not only play but contribute at the varsity level which should put us in contention for the league championship at the end of the year and have a good run in the district tournament. The team that we are most excited to play this year is Poland given that they have had a long run of winning the NE8 conference and with that being where we are ultimately trying to get to. “
The Lakeview basketball program is super excited to start their season. Although the team may be young all of the girls have the heart and the talent to make this season a great one. The freshmen on the team are a huge part of Lakeview girls basketball. Despite being young these 6 Freshman have the determination, heart, and competitiveness.
I asked Freshman Annelise Dejulio What are you most looking forward to for your first year of High School Basketball? She said “I am super excited to start my freshman year. It is intimidating being one of the youngest players on the floor but I have a great team of upperclassmen to help me if needed. We have a great team this year and I’m super excited to be able to play with everyone.”
Freshman Paige Schwartz also goes on to say that “I’m super excited to compete against bigger teams this year and bigger athletes. Playing against them will not only make me better as a player but make us better as a team. I’m couldn’t be more excited to start my first season of High school basketball.”
The Lakeview team has two seniors this year Makenna Werner and Izzy Haines. Both being three year letter winners. The two seniors are looking forward to being leaders and leading the basketball team this year. The Lakeview girls are always excited to play out of conference games. It gives the team more of an outlook on each team. Champion, Howland, and Ursuline are great teams that the Bulldogs love to play against. These team help each other become more competitive and play harder to achieve the NE8 championship.
