As winter break is approaching very quickly, the school is finally getting ready for the winter spirit week where students dress up as the themes for each day the cheerleaders pick out. A fun thing to look forward to for our spirit week is that some teachers in the school give bonus points to those who dress the theme for that day.
On Monday, December 11th the first theme will be Flannels, where everyone can dress up in their favorite flannel. I think a lot of people will participate in this theme because it is pretty easy, everyone has a flannel.
When asked what her idea for the flannel theme is, Sophomore Ali Parise comments, “For the flannel day, I plan on wearing just a regular flannel and leggings so I can be comfortable. I don’t know what flannel I am going to wear yet but I have a lot of options to choose from.”
On Tuesday, December 12th, the second spirit week theme will be white out, where students will wear white to show their appreciation to Mr. Clark, a former substitute teacher who recently passed away. The theme is whiteout because of Mr. Clark’s love for Penn State which will replicate the Penn State whiteout game that will happen on that Tuesday.
On Wednesday, December 13th, the third theme will be pajama day where students can dress up in their favorite pajamas and not get in trouble for breaking the dress code. Pajama day is usually the most done theme because it is also very easy, everyone has pajamas that they can wear.
When asked what she is going to wear for pajama day, Sophomore Adison Lenox comments, “For pajama day next Wednesday, I am probably going to wear my favorite buffalo plaid pajama pants with a random colored shirt. Pajama Day is always my favorite Spirit Week theme because pajamas look cute and are extremely comfy. I am really excited for Wednesday.”
On Thursday, December 14th, the fourth Spirit Week theme will be Ugly Sweater Day. Students can wear ugly sweaters, ugly shirts, or any attire that is Christmas-related. Again, I feel this theme will be fairly popular as well because many people have ugly sweaters. I am extremely excited to see everyone’s ugly sweaters.
When asked what she is going to wear for Ugly Sweater Day, Sophomore Nora Lewis comments, “I am excited for ugly sweater day so I can wear my Elf, ugly sweater. One of my favorite Christmas movies is Elf because it is really funny and exciting. I am glad I finally get to wear it since I got it last year.”
Finally, on Friday, December 15th, the Bulldogs will wrap up spirit week with a pretty cool theme, Santa vs elves. Students who choose to dress up have the choice of either dressing up as Santa, or as an elf in a type of competition style. This type of theme where students have a couple of options has been fairly popular because of the competition factor it gives to Spirit Week. I think this theme will also be very successful because it doesn’t take much to dress up as either Santa or an elf.
When asked what theme she is most excited about, Sophomore Sadie Sample comments, “The theme I am most excited to dress up for is probably Wednesday’s pajama day. I like to be comfy and wearing pajamas in school is comfy. I am also really excited about all of the other days, like the ugly sweater day and Santa vs elf day because I think they will be pretty fun to do.”
Overall, I think the cheerleaders did a great job picking out this year’s winter spirit week themes. I think a lot of people will participate in it and have a fun time dressing up.
