The Bulldogs played an exhilarating game against the McDonald Blue Devils on December 8th. Over the course of four thrilling quarters, the Bulldogs defeated the Blue Devils 55 to 47. However, there was one player that put on a show.
Senior and Captain Kyle Senkowitz scored a whopping 27 of 55 points against McDonald. While the school’s record for the most points scored by an individual player in one game is 42, Senkowitz still impressed both sides of stands with his incredible performance.
After his game, Senkowitz was able to answer a few questions for this article.
When asked what attitude he had going into the game, he replied “Obviously, as a team, we felt great. After the Liberty game, many of our players and coaches watched film to see what McDonald was all about and how they played basketball. When you watch film and prepare to play them in practice, you naturally feel more confident walking into the game.”
Senkowitz also gave insight to a player’s view of the game. He stated “The first half was getting our footing down and feeling out the game plan. We were hoping to get into a rhythm right off the bat. During halftime, we were very disappointed because, as a team, we knew we could play better and there was no doubt that we should have been beating them. In the second half, we came out with a new kind of motivation. We realized our potential and come together as a team to pass up the Blue Devils’ score.”
Senkowitz was then inquired about his expectations for his own performance during the game. He stated, “I was surprised at the fact that I had scored 27 points. I went into this game thinking that I would definitely have opportunities to make greats and score. I am just really thankful that teammates gave me the ball while I was in good and open spots. Without their help, I would not have been able to achieve this. Basketball is 100% an all team effort and no single player can win a game on their own.”
The Lakeview Boys Basketball team has remained undefeated throughout their 2023-2024 season. Senkowitz remains optimistic about the future of the season when he stated “We look forward to every game. I really enjoy looking into the student section and seeing all of my classmates come out to support me and my teammates. It really means a lot to us and we would not be where we are without the support that the students, parents, and the Lakeview community gives us. We are a very confident team when it comes to our future games. We love to see everyone come out and support.”
Senkowitz revealed, “Our most difficult matches will most likely be Poland and South Range. They give us a good fight every year and our team is preparing for those upcoming battles. Me and my teammates are very excited to see how this season, as a whole, turns out. We feel pretty confident about our record.”
The next game for the Bulldog Boys Varsity Basketball is this Friday, December 16th, 2023 at Howland High School. Kyle Senkowitz and the rest of the team are ecstatic to play the Tigers. They expect a win and hopefully another high scoring game from Senkowitz.
The boys basketball team hopes to see you and your friends out in the stands!
