Lakeview Girls Soccer ended last season in a great position. Their overall record being 12-5-1 and 8-3-1 in the NE8 conference.
They have high hopes on the upcoming season especially considering the hard work they’re putting in. There is weekly futsal that improves touches, turns, and keeps the girls conditioned. There’s also a team put together that plays every Sunday at the Niles Wellness Center. This helps the team start to bond, the incoming freshman to get up to speed, and the coaches to see what they’re working with. Several girls are also on club teams, and other teams at Farmer Jim’s Sports Complex.
Sophomore Midfielder Makenna Doran explains how she trains for next season, “When it comes to preparing for the upcoming soccer season, I have club soccer, futsal with my new team for school, and I play in tournaments on weekends. As of now, I have been playing on another team, being boy dominant to help me grow as a player, and I’ve been doing other things.”
Doran strongly emphasizes the importance of getting touches on the ball, and connecting with the team, “Getting touches on the ball during the off season might be the most important thing to do to help better prepare yourself. I believe this statement because getting touches on the ball is always good for you, and can help you stay connected with the sport. Not getting the touches during the off season can put you in a bad position, and it can make you worse at times. Connecting with new players and teammates from before is so important to keep a strong, positive team. Getting to know each other is the most important thing that any team can do because a team that is all friendly to each other, makes the best team; in my own opinion. Especially during the offseason is when you should be getting to know everyone that shows up. Waiting to have an experience with the new people closer to the season is always a deal breaker, and it makes it a lot harder to build a stronger friendship.“
Doran also expresses her positive hopes for the upcoming season, “My hopes for next seasons turn out is for us to be a strong team, and also win districts again for our school. I hope that we can all become a good team, and be best friends in the long run; making memorable memories together.”
Sophomore Midfielder Claire Marble, talks about the things the girls do to prepare for next season. “We have the high school indoor team at the Niles Wellness Center, and Wednesday futsal practices to get better as a team for the upcoming season.”
Marble adds, “These are slowly helping us improve our footwork, learning how to connect as a team, and building team bonding.”
Marble also sheds light on how she thinks next season will end up, ” I think it will be a good season due to all the new players we’ve gotten, and we should have a successful year.”
Sophomore Defender Leah Clark, talks about how she prepares for next season, “Well, I definitely prepare for the upcoming season. Some ways are staying fit, eating healthy, and getting a lot of practice whether that is on my own team or on other teams.”
Clark emphasizes her good hopes for the upcoming season, “I have very high hopes for next season, and I am excited to meet new people and make new memories on the field.”
Clark also explains the importance of practicing and how it will benefit the team, “I think it is very important to practice and play with the team for the upcoming season. Especially when spots are being filled; and you have incoming freshmen that get to meet the team. It sets up the next year for success.”
Considering the hard work and determination, the Girls Soccer Team is excited to see what next season will bring.
