The Winter Wonders dance is coming up on the Bulldogs very fast. With it coming up there is lots of planning going into it, by the students and staff. Everybody in the building is working together to make sure it is a fun experience for the students. There are a couple of changes that were put into place this year, while other things are the same.
The dance is on February 3rd in the High School Cafeteria from 7 pm- 10 pm. The Student Council has worked very hard to plan this dance. They pick a theme, order decorations, sell tickets, find chaperones, and a DJ. This is not an easy task and with all of the student council members, they make it a great experience for everyone.
Junior Addison Nicholas says, “At our student council meetings we have been working very hard and using our creativity to make a great Winter Wonder dance. This year our theme is Sadie Hawkins theme. Along the lines of that it is more of a sweethearts dance this year. The color scheme to go along with that is pink, white, and red. Something that we have decided to change up this year is to add the 8th graders to the dance. The dance is usually just a 9th-12th grade dance, but we thought it would be a good experience for the 8th graders this year because they are in high school now.”
As Nicholas said, the 8th graders will be joining us this year. I think this will be a great opportunity for them since they don’t have an 8th-grade dance this year. This will also give them a great opportunity to see how the high school dances work and to prepare them for Homecoming next year.
The theme is also really fun this year, something different that we haven’t done in past years. The students dress semi-formal (no jeans). In past years the girls usually wore dresses, but nothing crazy like homecoming. Some people dress in the color scheme while others just stick to a black dress.
Junior Olivia Petrilla states, “I am so excited for the Winter Wonders dance this year, I have been going every year since freshman year and I have a great time. It is always so much fun because it isn’t as stressful as homecoming is, but it is still a lot of fun. Me and my friends get all dressed up and take pictures at Avalon. After that, we always go to dinner before the dance. Recently I have been searching for a perfect dress to go with the theme. It is coming up on us so soon and I am so excited!”
This is not only the freshman’s first Winter Wonders, but also the 8th graders too. There are going to be two grades there that aren’t going to know what to expect. At first, they might be a little nervous and not know what to expect, but once they are there for a little bit they will be perfectly fine.
Freshman Mya Davies says, “ I have been waiting for Winter Wonders ever since Homecoming. I found my dress and I am so excited. I decided to wear a black dress. I am not sure what to expect, but I know it will be a lot of fun!”
As you can see the student body is preparing for the dance just as much as the student council is. The girls are all looking for a perfect dress, shoes, and jewelry. The staff as well is preparing such and high school principal Lawrence Herrholtz, who has been advising Student Council this year, has been sending email updates on it to the whole school. Some of the teachers are going to be helping with it by chaperoning. The tickets will start to go on sale from January 29th – February 2nd. They will be $10 each.
The Winter Wonders dance is a great experience and lots of fun, so hopefully we have a great outcome!
