Baseball Season is right around the corner and the Bulldogs are looking to build off last season’s success.
Last season the Bulldogs finished with a 20-6 record, and won the NE8 but it did not stop there. The Bulldogs went on to the first round of the playoffs where they faced off against the Cardinal Huskies, which they beat 5-2. The Bulldogs then advanced to the second round where they faced off against the Perry Pirates and they came out with a 6-0 win. The Bulldogs were not done yet as they moved on to the third round where they played Garfield Heights for the District Title and beat them 11-4. This win over Garfield was the first time in school history that the Baseball team won Districts. But shortly after the Bulldog’s remarkable season comes to an end when they face off with South Range and lose in a close one 4-3.
After a great season, the Bulldogs look to build off last season’s success and get better and better each day.
Coach Cameron Carson was asked about what he’s excited about for the season coming up and the expectations he has for his team this season.
Carson states ¨Our expectations for this year are very high. Coming off of the success that we had last year we have never been more motivated as a group. We are looking to bring a state championship to Lakeview High School. This year we are taking our first-ever trip to Myrtle Beach to play at the Ripken Experience. I think this is going to be a great experience for our team and will create an even stronger bond between our players. We will be playing some of the best teams on the East Coast, which will prepare us for the opponents that we will face throughout the season and eventually in the playoffs.”
Junior Baseball player Jason DeMonica was then asked about last season’s success and what he’s looking forward to adding to this season coming up.
DeMonica states, ¨Last season was definitely one to remember and it was one of the best seasons this program has had in a really long time. It definitely did not go the way we wanted to towards the end, but we had a bunch of accomplishments that as a team we are proud of and want to build off of. Having a great season and winning Districts for the first time is something I will never forget. We have goals and we are always looking to achieve them and we have to keep getting better and better each day.”
The Bulldogs are hungry and cannot wait for next season to come. But the little things matter such as practicing hard every day, playing catch, or hitting BP.
Senior Nolan Toth was asked about next season and what he’s looking forward to and the goals he has as a leader of the team now.
Toth stated, “Next season is going to be a grind every single day and we all have to come together and want to work as hard as we can every single day. As one of the seniors of the team, I need to always make sure that everyone is working hard and wants to be out here working hard at all times.”
Toth was also asked about goals he has for next season.
Toth states, “Next season we want to make it even farther than we did last season but that will not happen if we do not come to practice every single day with a great mindset and want to win. We have a bunch of great games on the schedule that will prepare us for some tough teams and eventually when we make it to playoff time. One event in our season I am looking forward to is when we head off to Myrtle in March and get to compete with great teams from all over the coast. This will be a great experience for us as a team and we will get better and better from it.”
The Bulldogs open their season up on the road against Boardman at 12:00 P.M. Come out and support them whenever you can as any extra noise makes a difference.
