Have you ever heard of FCA? It is an after school club that takes place every Thursday. FCA stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. However, this club isn’t restricted to only Christians or to athletes. If you are questioning about going to FCA, let’s hear from some members in the club and what they have to say about it.
Andrew Brown is in his senior year and it is his second year attending FCA. Brown says that, “FCA has only been a club since last year. So it would make sense that not a whole lot of people have heard of it yet. Although we are a small club, the same people still show up every week. We have managed to get a few new people to come to a meeting in the past but they don’t necessarily show up on the regular. Something that would be really cool to see would be seeing the club grow by 5 members. Although this doesn’t seem like a lot, it would be an improvement. I enjoy FCA because it is a good way to learn more about the word of God and grow closer to Jesus. If you are questioning about going to a meeting or not, my advice would be to go. You wouldn’t be judged by whether you are a Christian or not, in fact we would be happy that you are there.”
Another member from the club is Sophomore Lauren Brown. She has also been attending the club since last year and said, “I have really enjoyed going to FCA. My friend and I will always go together to the meetings after school. I have been going to FCA since it first started last year. I think it is a cool club because you get to hear lessons about the Bible and Jesus from other students. Some people might not pay attention to a Bible lesson if it is coming from a person that they do not know. However, if a student is leading it, this might make them listen more since it is coming from a student that they can relate with. Each person that goes to FCA takes turns on teaching a lesson about different things. These lesson could be about praying, loving, leading, temptation, and more. This is a really cool experience and I will keep going.”
Finally, Isaiah Warner is another senior and also attends FCA. Isaiah said, “FCA is truly a great way to connect with Jesus. Christian or not, everyone should attend at least one FCA meeting. You might be thinking, what’s in it for me? Well, having a relationship with Jesus is the best thing a person can have. And so by going to FCA, you have the opportunity to hear from the word of God and you are also going to be with other Christians or already follow him. If you have questions about Christianity, or about Jesus and what he did, then FCA is the place for you. You might be thinking that if you went that it would be awkward, and it might be, however, you will not be judged by anyone and you won’t regret going in the end. Our goal is to spread the good news about Jesus and what he did you. I’m glad that FCA was allowed in our school and I hope to see it grow in the future!”
Do you have any question about FCA? If you do, you can ask any member who goes. Even try to find one of these three people and ask them about the club. Remember, this isn’t restricted to only christian athletes, it is open for anyone to come!
