Lakeview students enjoyed a 4-day weekend in celebration of Presidents Day, with an extra Friday off. Some spent time with friends and family at home, while others traveled out of town.
Senior Ben Herrholtz traveled to Naples, Florida, during this break. He says, “Over the long weekend, my family and I decided to escape the cold weather. We visited my grandparents and spent quality time together. While there, we decided to explore several golf courses. This break was much needed, and it was nice to experience some better weather.”
Junior Mason Wheeler also went out of town during the break. He visited Lake Placid for the Lakeview ski trip. According to Wheeler, “It was an amazing trip exceeding my expectations. During our stay, I participated in several activities including snowboarding, curling, and touring the place. The mountains were different than what I expected. Usually, the ski club goes to Peak N’ Peak, but these mountains are much bigger. Initially, it was challenging to adjust, and I fell several times. However, towards the end of the trip, I finally got the hang of it. Overall, I enjoyed my long weekend away and it was a great experience.”
Junior Ava Foertch attended a concert in Pittsburgh last weekend. Foertch said, “I went to the Drake concert at the PPG Paints Arena and it was an unreal experience. Initially, I thought I wouldn’t be able to attend, but my friend and I managed to get last-minute tickets. The concert was so much more than what I was expecting. They had a surprise guest that no one, including myself, expected. Drake also had many unexpected stage effects. It was so much fun seeing one of my favorite artists in person, by far my favorite experience.”
While some students got to travel during this break, others decided to stay more local.
Sophomore Maddie Pompoco, decided to stay home over the break. Pompoco says,“This weekend I got to celebrate my 16th birthday. My friends and I decided to go out to dinner to celebrate. During this break, I also got to go shopping and pick out gifts. When I was not celebrating my birthday with family or friends, I had volleyball practice. This break allowed me to catch up on all my schoolwork. It also gave me time to rest and feel better about coming back to school.”
Freshman Luke Demsy chose to stay at home and focus on his basketball skills during the break. He said, “During the break, I decided to concentrate on practicing basketball. We had several school practices and a game on Friday. Apart from school practices, I decided to use this time to work on my skills by myself. On my days off, I worked hard outdoors, focusing on the fundamentals and allowing myself to feel better about going to tournaments. When I wasn’t focusing on basketball, I spent time with my friends. The break allowed me to hang out with my friends that I haven’t seen in a while.”
The break was much needed for students to refresh themselves, and now they are back to work with renewed enthusiasm. Students have already taken their first week back very seriously, and they have less than a month to improve their grades before the end of the nine weeks (March 15). This break has also heightened students’ excitement for their next upcoming break, spring break. We hope everyone enjoyed their time off and is refreshed for the end of the nine weeks!
