Senior Izzy Haines is approaching the end of her senior year at Lakeview High School. Haines has been a Bulldog her entire life as she has attended Lakeview since kindergarten.
Haines has been a very active member in the district, as she competed in many sports during her time as a Bulldog. These sports include: softball and basketball. Haines has stated that the most difficult part of her senior year was “sports. Maintaining the stress of a sport along with the stress of picking a college and doing school work really takes a toll on me.”
As the end of her high school career nears, Haines reflects on the time she has spent at Lakeview.
When asked what was one thing she wished she knew as a freshman, she answered, “If I could go back to freshman year I would definitely work harder on my grades. During my freshman year my grades were the last thing on my mind and I really wish that wasn’t the case. Another thing that I have learned from Lakeview is that you need to take some things with a grain of salt. Sometimes you really don’t need to stress about the things that won’t matter in the long run.“
Going off of the advice she would give her younger self, Haines has provided some advice for the students that are in their freshman or sophomore years. She tells them to not “stress about the little things. There will be times that you get frustrated and want to give up but don’t. I promise that everything will get so much better as the years go on. Keep your head up.”
Haines has always been a very social and fun person to be around. When asked what the highlight of her senior year was, she answered, “The highlight of my senior year so far is winning Homecoming Queen. Winning queen was a huge surprise to me and I am very thankful that my classmates voted for me to win!!”
Another one of her favorite memories out of school was “my friends and our game nights. Our game nights with my friends are always fun and always something I look forward to. Another fun thing we do is go out to eat, especially after the football or basketball games. Our favorite places to eat are Buffalo Wild Wings, Texas Roadhouse, and El Torero.”
As her high school chapter of her life slowly comes to the end, Haines will always remember “all the friends I’ve made along the way. Even though sports may not have been the greatest for me, it still benefited me by making friends I will remember forever.”
She also will never forget the impact her sophomore math teacher made on her, “The teacher that has influenced me the most was my math teacher my Sophomore year. Mr. Verhas was one of the best teachers I have ever had. Not only did he care about us as students, but he also cared about us as people. He was very inspiring and I thank him for everything he has taught me and being such a positive impact on not only me but also my other classmates.”
When asked what she will miss most after she leaves Lakeview, she answered, “I will miss my friends. My friends are my family and all of us splitting ways after high school will be very sad for me.”
After graduation, Haines plans to “attend Kent State or Cleveland University to study Health sciences to pursue my dream as a chiropractor. The feeling of me taking a big step into my future is very scary for me but I know I will have my friends and family there for me through every step of the way.”
Congratulations and good luck to 2024 senior Izzy Haines as she begins the next chapter in her life!
