Lakeview boys and girls bowling teams have ended with sectionals and districts just finishing up. Both the boys and girls bowling teams had successful seasons. The boys team had 3 seniors on the varsity team. On the other hand, the girls team is a very young team with no seniors and has a good chance of going far next year.
The Lakeview boys bowling team finished the season with a record of 7-6, losing to teams like Austintown-Fitch, Canfield, Hubbard twice, Harding, and Boardman. The boys team finished 2nd in the Northeast Eight conference behind Hubbard for the second year in a row. The boys bowling team’s highest-scoring game was when they played Hubbard for the second time at the Cortland Lanes. They lost the match 2,487 to 2,515.
The Lakeview girls bowling team finished up the season with a final record of 7-6 as well, losing to teams like Austintown-Fitch, Struthers twice, Hubbard, Girard, and Boardman. The girls finished 3rd in the Northeast Eight conference, behind the conference runner-ups, Hubbard, and the conference champions for the 3+ years in a row, Struthers. The girls highest-scoring game was when they played Struthers, getting a score of 1,516.
When asked how he felt about his first year of bowling, Junior Noah Masaitis comments, “I enjoyed the season this year. It was a lot of fun to bowl with friends and compete against other schools. This was my first year being on the bowling team and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to next year, with it being me, and most of my friend’s senior year”.
At sectionals, the boy’s bowling team competed at the Wickliffe lanes against 14 other teams. In sectionals, the top 5 teams advance to districts. Unfortunately, the Lakeview boys team did not score high enough to make it to the top 5. After a pretty good season, they fell short of sectionals. The boys bowled a final score of 3,326, with the Champion coming in first place, bowling 4,125.
When asked how he felt he bowled at sectionals, Junior Lucas Redmond comments, “At sectionals, I feel like I could have done much better than I did. In the first game I bowled, I started off strong with a 177. It was alright and close to my average. In my second game, I got below my average score and bowled a 134. I definitely could have done better on this round. In my third game, I came back a little and bowled a 146 which still isn’t great but is an improvement since my last game. Overall, I scored a 457.”
Again at sectionals, the girls bowling team competed at the Wickliffe Lanes as well against 12 other teams. The Lakeview girls bowling team was able to qualify and advance to districts scoring a final score of 1,894, getting 3rd place in their section. In this section, only 4 teams made it to districts, including Fairport Harding, Wickliffe, Lakeview, and Edgewood.
When asked what his favorite thing about this season was, Junior Caden Baldwin commented, “My favorite thing about bowling this year would probably be just having fun with my friends. Bowling practices and even matches are so fun because all you have to do is bowl and talk to people. Another thing that is really fun is the bus rides to tournaments and matches. On the buses, we make jokes and talk to each other. ”
Next up for the Lakeview girls bowling team is districts, where they will be competing against 13 other strong teams. The girls will be on lane 30, to their left, Elyria Catholic, and East Canton on their right. Overall, both the girls and boys bowling teams had very successful seasons. Great job to both of the bowling teams.
