The Lakeview Baseball team’s Spring Break is looking a little different this year. They are heading down to Myrtle Beach to play four games from March 28th through April 1st. These are not just any kind of games; these are against some of the best teams on the East Coast. They are going to get to experience something that not every baseball player gets to experience.
Many other schools do this and it is great that the coaches and school administrators have made this happen this year. This is going to be a great team bonding experience and a different baseball experience than what the players are used to.
Head Coach Cameron Carson has had this idea and he has made it happen this year. Carson is giving the baseball team a great opportunity and a great experience.
Carson was asked where he got this idea from, “When I was in high school we got the opportunity to play and it helped us as a team. We also went to Myrtle Beach when I coached at Niles and it had a great turnout.”
Along with the coaches, the players also are very excited about this opportunity. At practice, they have been practicing a lot so they are prepared.
Senior Nolan Toth states, “The team has been working very hard for this upcoming season and we’re trying to perfect all the little things so we are prepared for Myrtle Beach at the end of March. We have been putting in all of our plays and working on pitching, hitting, and fielding. I feel like we are well-prepared and ready to go. We are super excited to be able to play down there and enjoy the trip together and we think it is going to grow our bond as a team. We can’t wait to play on Polo Grounds and hopefully hit some bombs at the Cal Ripken experience. I can’t wait.”
The field that they are playing on is very unique, it was modeled based on old professional MLB fields. There has also been a lot of team bonding planned for the trip. The main point of the trip is to make the team closer, so they can play better as a team. This will make the players get to know each other so much more than they already do. They are going to be together for 4 straight days. From dinner, rooming together, beach time, and playing baseball together. They will make memories that will last a lifetime.
Junior Jason DeMonica says, “I am excited for this opportunity to play against some great teams. I think this is going to be good competition for our team and prepare us for our games this season. We are playing 4 games while we are there against 2 Ohio teams, Talmadge and Hopewell-London. We are also playing a Pennsylvania team, Mercyhurst Prep, and a Kentucky team, Franklin Simpson. Along with the games we have a lot of team bonding planned for when we are in Myrtle Beach. We have team dinners planned, going to the beach, and we are all going to the boardwalk together one night.”
According to Carson, the coaches have been working hard to prepare the team to be successful in Myrtle Beach. They have started scrimmages this week and have 3 others scheduled. They also have 2 games here before they go to Myrtle Beach, which will give them practice.
Overall, this is a great opportunity and hopefully, it will be successful and happen again in the future. Good Luck to the Lakeview Baseball team on your games in Myrtle Beach and the rest of your season!
