Ashley Handrych, Lakeview’s previous middle school principal, has recently stepped into the roll of Lakeview’s Superintendent. Handrych has been on the Bulldog’s staff for many years in many different positions. Specifically, before she was the middle school principal, she was a special education teacher, an elementary school counselor, and a director of food services. Over the last eighteen years she has worked her way to where she is now. Handrych is not only well-respected by her fellow staff, but also by all the students she has impacted over the years. Handrych went above and beyond to support her students whether that is putting a smile on their face in the hallway or going to their sporting events.
Current Junior Kennedy Bartlett was asked: What is a specific memory you have of Mrs. Handrych when she was your principal in middle school? Bartlett stated, “In middle school my volleyball team was very successful. Over the duration of seventh and eighth grade we went 64-0. I specifically remember Mrs. Handrych being at all of our home games, and being a continuous supporter of our team!”
It is important for students to have steady support at school, because you never know if they have anyone who encourages them at home. Handrych made sure students knew they were able to come to her with their needs, and receive help in return.
Acts like this show her dedication to her job, and the reason why she was welcomed with open arms into her new role by the rest of the Lakeview community. Employees all across Lakeview’s staff make it their priority to positively impact students lives, and the community is proud to say that Handrych was and still is one of the important factors in achieving this goal. Due to the many positions that Handrych has worked in over the years, she is familiar with the perspective of many people. Whether it is being a student at Lakeview, a teacher, or a principal. This prior knowledge will provide her with a head start, and ensure that she is able to improve the district as a whole. With this in mind, the student body and staff will have her back.
English Teacher, Jenna Hogue was asked: What do you think of Mrs. Handrych being hired as the new Superintendent? Mrs. Hogue responded, “I think it is going to be wonderful for the future of Lakeview to have someone as invested and as enthusiastic about being a Bulldog as Superintendent.”
Handrych has dedicated years of her life to putting smiles on students faces, improving students educations, and embracing being a Bulldog. It is clear she has pride in what she does, and the community here at Lakeview High School would not be who they are today without her influence in their years of youth. Even though Handyrch is no longer working down the street at the Middle School, the people of Cortland and Bazetta are still grateful she is involved in overseeing the school.
The role of a superintendent is to further develop the school for the future, and make improvements as time continues. This job also comes with many more behind the scenes responsibilities. Fortunately, with Handrych’s work ethic and attentiveness these tasks should not be a problem. Currently, Lakeviews High School, Middle School, and Elementary School are filled with hard-working teachers who care about their students and jobs.
A district is composed and built on relationships. Here at Lakeview, anyone can turn to a strong support group when in need. It does not matter if you are a student, teacher, or new Superintendent. Teachers do not only form bonds with their students, but with other staff members as well. There is always a level of respect, and the community is excited for Handrych’s new opportunity.
