Senior Lillian McCarthy is Lakeview’s newest Top Dog! McCarthy is excited to begin the new chapter of her life, but reflects on her past. She has been a proud Bulldog since kindergarten.
When considering all senior events Lakeview seniors have gotten to experience, McCarthy states she was most excited for her “Senior Sunrise or Sunset and the dances. I love getting dressed up for Homecoming and Prom and dancing with my friends all night.”
As her senior year begins to wrap up, she has some reflecting to do. McCarthy advises underclassmen to “ have fun, you can get into college regardless of your grades. Don’t stress over things you don’t have to and just have fun before you get to your senior year.”
McCarthy also lets her fellow classmates know that “it is so hard to keep up with school while applying to scholarships and colleges, along with maintaining your social life.”
More positively, McCarthy’s favorite memory of her senior year has been “hanging out with all of [her] friends.”
In fact, her favorite memory with her classmates was “going to football and basketball games. We would often go out to eat after the games. We loved dressing up for the games and just hanging out together after.”
McCarthy also enjoyed “matching with [her] closest friend Abby Sulc during spirit week. [They] always correlate outfits and it’s so fun.”
Throughout her time as a Bulldog, McCarthy has been a model student. She is involved in many extracurriculars, such as: National Honors Society, Senior Beta, Junior Executive Committee, Women’s Choir, Drama Club, Youth Led Prevention, Assemble for Change, the 126 Club, and French Club. She has also been active in many College Credit Plus classes.
McCarthy’s favorite club memory and activity was the Senior Beta Convention. She and her friends “got to wander around Columbus while not presenting projects and I always make great memories there.”
Her biggest regret in McCarthy’s high school career was never participating in a sport. She wishes she “had just played a sport, not starting as a freshmen closes a door so you don’t end up joining later. I will forever regret not joining a sports team or cheer. If I could go back, I would definitely sign up for one.”
As her chapter at Lakeview comes to a close, McCarthy will always remember the people and teachers who impacted her Bulldog experience. The senior said, “I will remember all the friends I’ve made at lakeview. They have made me the person I am today and I will be staying friends with a lot of them outside of high school.”
Though her friends have left a major impact on McCarthy, she will also never forget one of the teachers who influenced her immensely. McCarthy said, “Mr. Murphy has been the biggest influence on me here at Lakeview. I had him as a teacher for two years in a row and as an advisor for Junior Executive Committee. Mr. Murphy has helped me feel more comfortable at using my voice and has given me the chance to be a leader. He has also helped me maintain my grades, I wouldn’t have made it through High School Chem or CCP Chem without his after school tutoring.”
While McCarthy will miss being a Lakeview Bulldog and all of the classmates she has grown and became friends with over her high school career, she is extremely excited and optimistic over what is to come.
McCarthy said, “I am going to Kent State University to major in either Paralegal Studies or Business and then going to law school after. I’m sad to be moving away from home, but I’m really excited to go to college and get out of Lakeview. I already have a roommate and love her, I’m so excited to be rooming with her and excited to plan out our dorm room.”
Best of luck and congratulations to our 2024 Top Dog Lillian McCarthy!
