This Senior spotlight goes to Jake Nicholas. Nicholas has been a Bulldog his whole life and has accomplished many great things here at Lakeview High School. After graduation Nicholas will be attending the University of West Virginia to study Economics.
With college in his future, Nicholas will always remember his high school years. I asked Nicholas What is the most difficult part about senior year and why? He stated, “The most difficult part has been trying to stay locked in during the end of the year.”
Nicholas has had a huge impact on Lakeview athletics. He is a four year letter winner for Football and a two year letter winner for Boys Baseball.
Nicholas will never forget about his football team. Stating that his favorite memory from football is “getting a win on our football senior night with the guys that I went through all of my ups and downs with.”
Looking back at the last four years, Nicholas has changed a significant amount. I asked Nicholas “What is one thing you wish you knew as a freshman and why? and/or If you could go back to freshman year, what would you do differently?” He said, “That everything you do counts school work, sports, or just time in the community. I think that I would have taken things more seriously in the beginning of my high school career. Instead of having to try and fix the things that I messed up in the earlier years.”
Jake has not only made a great impact on his peers but also his friends he has made through his high school career. His friend and fellow senior Sam Balest had nothing but good things to say about Nicholas including that “Jake has always been a good friend of mine ever since I moved to Lakeview. Not only do we have a good friendship in and out of school we also shared it on the football field together. I am also attending the University of West Virginia where me and Jake will be roommates and continue our friendship as we move into the next big chapter of our lives.”
Not only is Nicholas a great friend, he is also a great student. Nicholas partakes in the school’s athletics and community service and works very hard in his studies. Although when his is in class, it is his time to learn, and he used that time to create really good memories in classes with his friends. I asked Nicholas what his favorite in class memory is from throughout high school? He goes on to say that “My favorite in class memory was when in Mrs. Millers Trig classes were getting to do group work with my buddies Nolan, Andrew, Aidan, and Ethan.”
Not only does Nicholas have some in class memories he will remember forever but also out of class memories that he cherishes. I asked Nicholas what was his “Favorite out of school memory with your classmates?” He goes on to say “My favorite memories were when all of my boys and I would head over to the Buffalo Wild Wings on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the BOGO wings.” Not only is it important to have friends in the classroom but to also carry those friendships outside of school hours.
Senior year is a huge occurrence in every young adult’s life. Sometimes we like to look back on our younger years and think about all of the fun memories we have made. Now that Jake’s senior year is coming to an end there are many great things to be excited for and take the next big step in his life. Nicholas next step after graduation is to “Go study economics at West Virginia University to hopefully go into the business world. I can’t wait to start the next chapter.”
Good luck to Senior Jake Nicholas as he takes on his future!!
