This edition of the 2024 Senior Spotlight or Top Dog includes Ethan Gavitt. A senior at Lakeview, Gavitt has been with us for many years at Lakeview. Gavitt is loved by many peers around him. Gavitt is eager to graduate and ready for his next chapter in life.
I had the pleasure of asking Gavitt about his experiences at Lakeview and his reflection on his time here. First, I asked Gavitt, “What is one thing you wish you knew as a freshman and why? What would you do differently as a freshman?”
Gavitt states, “I wish I knew how fast it would go by. I remember when I was a freshman and I would look up to the seniors thinking I had all the time in the world. It feels just like yesterday I was that freshman kid who just got into high school. If I were to go back and do something differently, it would be to participate more in class and build those relationships with my teachers. Being afraid to ask questions or participate in class is something I would have changed.”
Many seniors have very similar experiences. They were all surprised by how quickly it would go. The seniors, including Gavitt, thought they had all the time in the world. In the blink of an eye, it passes by. Next, I asked Gavitt, “What is one thing you will remember about Lakeview and why?”
Gavitt explains, “I will remember the memories I have made. The memories with my friends in the classroom, on sports teams, and just having fun. I will remember this the most because these memories will last forever. Lakeview was a part of my childhood starting from elementary school to high school.”
Memories are arguably the most important part of high school. Many people will forget the bad grades they got or the people who disliked them, but what they will remember is the memories made with friends throughout the years. Next, I spoke to Gavitt about what he was most excited about during his senior year. I asked him, “What events were you most excited about in the final school year?”
Gavitt exclaimed, “I was most excited for the football games at the beginning of the year. When you get a lot of people in the student section and get the energy high, then the games can be really fun. It was also nice to see the team play well this year and that was very exciting.”
Like many, Gavitt appreciated the community and togetherness that comes with being in a student section. Being able to be a kid, cheering with your friends, and peers make for an enjoyable time on Friday nights. Next, I asked him, “What is the most difficult part of your Senior year and why?”
Gavitt States, “The most difficult part would be the realization of going into adulthood. Although it is also very exciting to start this new chapter in my life, it is also difficult because I am no longer a kid anymore. this feeling could get the best of me sometimes but I can look past it and think of the positives the majority of the time.”
Having a positive attitude throughout these tedious times is the best thing you can do. I then had the opportunity to ask a few of his friends about Gavitt and the impact he had on them.
Senior Michael Moats said, “Ethan is a real standup guy, he is always positive and always has a smile on his face. Being able to be his friend was a pleasure.
Senior Ty Goyzueta said, “Ethan is one of my best friends. He is always there for me and made my time at Lakeview very enjoyable. From hanging out on Friday nights to eating lunch together, Ethan was always a good time.”
With high praise from his classmates, we have high expectations for him in the future. Lastly, I asked Gavitt; What is your next step in life and what are your feelings about beginning the next chapter?
Gavitt explained, “I am going to attend YSU this next year and I am excited. I am also nervous about the unknown but I know that God has a plan for me and I will have to trust he leads me in the right direction. I am excited to meet new people and new teachers as I go to college and continue to progress toward my goal of being an insurance agent.”
Good luck to Senior Ethan Gavitt as he moves from Lakeview into another chapter in his life.
