As the spring season is ending the Lakeview Softball team is ready to come to a close. These athletes have worked super hard to have an amazing 15-3 season so far. The team this year consists of 18 players for both JV and Varsity teams. The team includes 2 seniors, Izzy Haines and Makenna Werner.
There are many younger class men on the team that have made a huge impact on the 2024 softball season.
I asked Freshman Anneliese Dejulio if she was excited for her first season of high school softball? She states, “I was super nervous going into the season being a freshman. Once we started though I have grown to be myself and bond with the girls on the team. We have done so well this year and I’m so happy I get to be apart of this team.”
Dejulio is the team’s third basements with a very fun and energetic personality that keeps the team going through games.
Dejulio isn’t the only Freshman excited to play with the big dogs. I also asked Freshman Abby Waldo if she was excited to play her first year of high school softball. She excitedly says, “Yes, I was super excited to finally play at the high school level. Our team is succeeding so well this year and I’m so happy I get to play with my friends and be a part of this winning season.”
Waldo is the team’s outfielder, who is a very speedy around the bases.
The Bulldogs have a very competitive and Athletic group of girls playing this year. More than half of the team plays travel softball which helps improve the team’s talent.
Junior Kalyssa Werner goes on to say that, “This is a season I will cherish forever, considering this is the last year I will ever get to play with my sister Makenna Werner I have tried my all to give her, her best last season.”
K Werner is this seasons strong shortstop. This is Kalyssa’s second year playing with the Lakeview Bulldogs softball team.
The girls season will end May 11th playing against McDonald High School. Hopefully the girls can pull a win for their last game of the season. It will be an exciting game!
The Lady Bulldogs are staying positive this year preparing themselves for the tournaments.
I asked Senior Makenna Werner Are you sad that the season is coming to an end? What will you miss the most?. She stated, “Being that I’ve played this sport since I was little I am definitely going to miss it. Over all there have been multiple ups and downs but softball is always going to be a sport I love. So being that it could potentially end soon makes me very sad to think about. However, I have made so many memories with different teams and teammates that I have played with. I am going to miss the ability to make memories with an amazing group of girls that I have been able to play with, along with the sport itself. Overall I am very happy with how this season is going and so glad I could spend it with the teammates I had on the field this year.”
I also asked Sophomore Mackenzie Stowe what she thinks about the season. She explains, “This seasons has been the best season I have been apart of so far. Being that I am only a sophomore I plan to keep staying positive and carry this success into the coming years! I am so excited to see what tournaments are for us.”
The team’s positive attitude and their desire to win can take the Lakeview Girls softball team far in the conference. Hopefully this year the softball team makes it far in the tournaments.
Good luck Lakeview Girls Softball!!
