In this edition of Lakeviews 2024 Top Dog, we have senior Makenna Werner. Werner has been a Lakeview student for many years and has been around and left an impact all those years. Werner is excited to speak about her time at Lakeview and what impact Lakeview had on herself.
I had the privilege to ask Werner a few questions. Firstly, I asked Werner about what events she was most excited about during her senior year.
Werner elaborated, “I was most excited about going to the football and basketball games. in past years they were so much fun to watch and the themes were always fun to take part in.”
Many of the football and basketball games are given specific themes by our cheerleaders. The cheerleaders always try to make fun and exciting themes each year. For these last four years, the themes have been fantastic and memorable, to say the least. Next, I asked her what her favorite part of her senior year has been so far.
Werner said, “My favorite part of senior year so far was probably the senior trips. I had a fun time with the scavenger hunt and also at top golf.”
The scavenger hunt was a new edition to this year’s senior activities. This was a tradition most commonly found in Lakeviews volleyball team. The hunt was said to create team bonding and overall a fun time for all involved with the activity. The Junior Executive Club took this idea and made it into something very simple and easy for the senior class. The scavenger hunt went great with many groups going all out for the prize at the end. The other part of our trip was at TopGolf in Cleveland. This was a very fun experience as it was great to see other students and faculty try their best to play golf. Next, I asked Werner about her favorite sports moment in her high school career all together.
Werner said, “My favorite sports memory is probably making it to the district final my junior year for softball.”
As we know the softball team last year had an amazing year, exceeding all expectations. They made it to the district finals and had a long run in the playoffs. Lastly, I asked her about her favorite memory out of school.
Werner said, “My favorite memories involve my basketball and softball teammates. I loved hanging out with them whether it’s at sleepovers, parties, or restaurants.”
Softball was a huge influence on her and created many fun times and good memories throughout her career at Lakeview. Next, I had the privilege to ask Senior Izzabelle Haines and Senior Abigail Sulc about how Werner and her impact here at Lakeview.
Lakeview Senior Haines said, “Makenna has been a great person and an even better teammate. Me and Makenna have built a close bond through the many many years of us playing together in both basketball and softball. She has been nothing but a good person and a great teammate.”
Werner plays both softball and basketball and has played those for many years each. Now as a senior, she has had much of the shine on her this season. Next, we asked Sulc about Makenna and how she’s grown as a person.
Lakeview Senior Sulc said, “Makenna has grown so much as a student and as a friend throughout these years as a Lakeview student. I have nothing but good things to say and will be paying attention to see where she goes in life.”
Makenna has some very high praise from some of Lakeview’s best students. Makenna will also be graduating top of the 2024 Lakeview class as one of the few valedictorians we have. She will no doubt go very far in life with her great education and high work ethic. Lastly, Werner was asked about her next steps in life.
Werner said, “My next step is to attend Youngstown State University to study primary education i am excited but nervous to begin this next chapter of my life.”
We wish the best of luck to Werner as she starts her next chapter in life.
