The Lakeview Bulldog band has held a long tradition of excellence. This year’s show proves no different. This year’s show is entitled “Never say Never”. featuring songs that have the words “Never” or “Say” within the title. As simple as it sounds this year’s show has been one the most fun and abstract in years! It even includes acting performances from Senior Ashley Graczyk and Sophomore Logan Hartman. Years ago this would have been unheard of, but, growth always sprouts anew!
Every year our Bulldog band members have to learn a completely new show. Yet every year the audience can’t hold their applause. This show obviously had its downsides like the complexity. But it also had its advantages. Our band members express their overall thoughts, challenges, and accomplishments for this years show
This show is definitely one for the books. Almost everyone is in agreement that this show is one of the most impressive in a while.
Senior band president, drum major, and trombone section leader Chelsea Dean claimed, “I really like this show! It’s by far one of my favorite shows I’ve ever gotten to perform. The marching, the script, the songs, everything just amasses into the perfect show.”
Everybody has their own opinions on the show. Many are good, however not everyone is as perceptive to the show.
Senior clarinet co-section leader Mattie Parrish stated, “This new show obviously comes with its disadvantages. We’re doing things that we never would have done my freshman year. It’s all very cool but I think that it’s way too long. Since we added so much dialogue after the first 4 songs I feel like the audience gets bored. Despite this I think that Sensabaugh has made an amazing show that people will remember for a while.”
The challenges our marching Bulldogs face seem insurmountable. Yet, every year they manage to turn that difficulty and spin it into a spectacular show.
Dean said, “I like this show but it’s definitely harder than last year. I perform as a drum major during the song ‘I Say a Little Prayer’ and to say that this was hard is an understatement. Oftentimes I would have to do the ending over and over again because it’s that difficult. However it’s a challenge that I am proud to have overcome. It really helped me grow as a drum major.”
As you grow older others’ expectations of you begin to increase. People see you as someone to listen and look up to. For some this feels rewarding, for others not so much.
Senior vice president and clarinet section leader Emma Mika said, “I have definitely grown the most this show. Now that I’m a senior, I’ve noticed that more and more people started to look up to me. Which is something I never thought I would get to experience. It’s really nerve wracking considering how difficult this show really is. I think that because of that pressure I have actually become a better player.”
For every challenge you conquer another step you take towards improvement. Though it may take a while, it may be all worth it in the end.
Mika claimed, “Like I said before I’ve grown the most from this show. I can play all the songs fluently. I think my marching style has improved. Overall I’ve become a better marcher, player, and section leader and I’m extremely proud.”
The Lakeview marching Bulldogs should be extremely proud of themselves. The effort they put into this not only improved their abilities but also impressed many in the stands. If that’s not musical perfection, then I don’t know what is!
