This Thursday, October 31, 2024, the spookiest day of the year will finally come. Here at Lakeview, many students celebrate this holiday by dressing up, going to parties, and even trick-or-treating. Given the popularity of the holiday, many students are interested in what their peers will be doing on the upcoming fateful night. Let’s see what our Bulldogs have up their sleeves for this Halloween.
Senior Hailey Anderson has many plans for the frightening day in question. Anderson explained, “This Halloween my boyfriend and I are going to wear matching costumes and even go to some Halloween themed places like Fear Forest. I am very excited because this is the one night of the year everyone gets to dress funny and get away with it. Seeing the creative costumes that people come up with is always interesting and inspiring. I hope to see some of my classmates celebrating together considering this is our last Halloween together before some of us go away to college.”
Anderson brought up a wonderful point- this Halloween is the last that the class of 2025 will celebrate all together. From having Halloween parties in elementary school, to having our own costume parties at home, our senior class has been celebrating Halloween together for years. Sadly, this is one of the events the senior class must pause for the moment in, because it will be over in the blink of an eye.
I decided to ask other seniors how they felt about this. Senior Michael Nigrin said, “I can’t believe this is our last Halloween together as a class. Over the years I remember always doing something fun in class or outside of school with my friends, but it is a tough realization that it is coming to an end. So, for this Halloween I plan to spend it with as many of my peers as possible. I will make sure to take lots of pictures so the memories will never be forgotten. I think it is important that we all come together to do fun things on Halloween so we have amazing memories to look back on, and funny stories to tell in the future.”
As Nigrin and Anderson mentioned, this Halloween is the last one the seniors will be celebrating together as a class. However, experiencing overwhelming emotion that comes with this realization isn’t always a bad thing.
I decided to ask another senior, Addison Briell, if there were any other activities that came to mind that may brighten the spirits of other seniors who will miss this tradition. Briell stated, “I have been a student at Lakeview since kindergarten. Growing up alongside the people I will be graduating with in just a few months was an experience I will always be grateful for. Even though this is our last Halloween together as a class, it is important that we cherish the past thirteen years of Halloween that we have celebrated together. Even though our dressing up and trick-or-treating years are coming to an end, there are a bunch of little Bulldogs in the middle and elementary school who are just getting started making their memories. This Halloween we should party just like those little kids- dressing up and collecting candy from our neighbors. Just because we grew up, doesn’t mean we have to act like it.”
Briell’s inspiring words were very heartfelt and considerate. She made the wonderful point that we don’t have to grow up anytime soon. So, to any Bulldogs of any age, Cortland trick-or-treat is this Thursday, October 31, from 6-8pm. I hope to see everyone there. Happy Halloween, Lakeview! Don’t forget to pause for the moment.
