The past 10 weeks, our football team at Lakeview has put in extremely hard work to secure their spot in the playoffs, and give our school a wonderful reputation. Each of our players have given their all, and the Bulldogs are very appreciative of their hard work. This past Friday, October 25th, the Lakeview Football team won their senior night game against Beaver Local, securing our team a spot in the playoffs. I asked some of our football players how they feel about this amazing win, and their overall season.
Senior Caleb Hnat, outside linebacker and wide receiver, is very proud of his fellow teammates and their performance this season. Hnat said, “I am very proud of my teammates for giving their all this season. We have shown up and put in work these past few years, and it has definitely paid off. I will never forget the memories I made with my teammates this year and all the years before. Since freshman year we have gone to every practice and every game, and I believe that our dedication over the course of our high school careers is what ultimately led us to the victories we got during our senior season.”
The seniors final victory in the regular season took place last Friday, where Senior Landon Hall, defensive end and running back, celebrated his final win on senior night. Hall said, “Walking across the field with my parents and then winning the game the same night was such a surreal feeling. It was like a full circle moment for my teammates and I. We started from the bottom, most of us playing since elementary or middle school, and made it all the way to the top. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without my boys and our coaches. The win on Friday took determination from every single one of us. Winning our senior night game and making it to the playoffs was something I will never forget. This season we had a lot of ups and downs, a lot of challenges and difficult opponents, but at the end of it all we still managed to work together as a team and a family to end our season on such a good note.”
This season, Lakeview has played a total of ten teams. I asked senior Gabe Hernandez, inside linebacker and wingback, what he took away from the lessons he learned this year. Hernandez said, “We had a lot of hardships to overcome this season. South Range was a tough school, but our team still held our heads high and fought hard. We never let losses or challenges define us, we always bounce back and redeem ourselves no matter how hard it is. This season I learned that we are capable of great things. Coach Bush taught us what it takes to be the greatest, and in the end we were able to finish strong. I am very proud of all the accomplishments we made this season, I couldn’t have asked for a better senior season. We played hard, worked hard, and did some really fun stuff along the way together. I will always remember this season, and I am looking forward to seeing the great things the underclassmen accomplish after we graduate.”
It is clear that our Lakeview Varsity Football team gave their all this season. On behalf of the district, I would like to thank all of the coaches, players, band members, and everyone else who made the games this year so memorable. This Friday, our Bulldogs will play in the first round of playoffs at Sugar Garaway School in Sugar Creek, Ohio. Everyone better be there supporting our team! Go Dogs!
