In an exciting season filled with hard work and determination, the Lakeview High School volleyball team has etched its name in history by clinching the district championship title for the very first time. This landmark victory not only signifies a monumental achievement for the players and coaching staff but also marks a transformative moment for our school community. The team showcased their resilience and teamwork, overcoming challenges to emerge victorious against Beaumont High School.
The Lady Bulldogs took down the Blue Streaks in four sets. The team showcased exceptional skills and teamwork, defeating their opponents with the first set ending 25-20, the second set being 25-10, the third set loss resulting in 25-18, and the final set being 25-23.
Emotions were high during the match, each team showcased their skills to earn the title. The atmosphere in the gym was thrilling, with fans cheering and holding their breath at every point.
Senior Captain Molly Stuart recognizes this when saying, “The emotions during any game are very up and down. During the district championship game I think the entire team felt every emotion possible. Nervousness and excitement were the two main ones for most of us. I think after winning we all felt super proud of ourselves!!”
The moment they’d gotten the final point, the players erupted in joy, their hard work and dedication finally paying off. Winning the district title wasn’t just a victory; it was a testament to their perseverance, teamwork, and passion for the game.
Senior Captain Reagan Price emphasizes, “Personally for me, winning a district title means accomplishing a goal I set for myself for my freshman year. For the team as a whole, it was amazing to be able to make history and have our team’s hard work this year live on in the record books.”
For many players, this achievement symbolizes more than just a trophy; it represents years of hard work, overcoming doubts, and pushing through challenges together. Each practice session was filled with sweat and determination, where players learned to rely on one another both as athletes and as friends. The joy of victory was amplified by the memories of struggles faced along the way—moments that shaped them into a cohesive unit ready to take on any opponent.
Price reflects on her own record-breaking season adding, “It is an honor to be able to break school records and reach milestones like my 1000 kills my senior year. I couldn’t have done it without my amazing support system. Individually I was determined every game to give it my all and my work behind the scenes paid off. As a team, my friends and coaches always had my back.”
The road to districts was not easy. The team faced several tough opponents throughout the season, but their perseverance and unity helped them overcome every challenge.
Senior Captain Mallory Mailach described, “It really showed our team chemistry and how much our hard work paid off. If it wasn’t for our teamwork we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we did. The bond our team had was very special and it showed while we played.”
The team went on into regionals, dominating Lake High School 3-1, earning a spot towards regional finals. The following Saturday afternoon, the team became regional runner-ups, falling short to Shelby High School in 4 sets.
As the season has come to an end, it’s important to recognize the contributions of each senior who played a crucial role in their historic, record-breaking season. Seniors Mallory Mailach, Molly Stuart, Reagan Price, Hallie Capan, Mara Schmader, Addison Allen, Kennedy Bartlett, and Ava Bacon have each left a lasting mark on the program. Their leadership, dedication, and outstanding performances have set new records and raised the bar for future teams.
