As the leaves turn and the air becomes crisp, the excitement of basketball season begins to build at Lakeview High School. The Lakeview Lady Bulldogs are so excited to start their season, they are gearing up for what is going to be a promising and intense pre-season.
This year they only have one senior, Hailey Anderson; they have four juniors, Annabelle Humphrey, Kalyssa Werner, Mackenzie Stowe and Isabella Isenberg; there are sophomores, Sophie Irwin, Paige Schwartz, Anna Haynie and Juli O’dell. They also have freshmen Siarra Stowe, Madeline Isenberg and Sienna Terry. The team couldn’t be happier to see more faces.
As pre-season is beginning the team is focusing on the scrimmages and practices to prepare themselves for their upcoming games. The drive the girls have in pre-season really sets the tone for how the rest of their actual season is going to play out. The girls are excited to show all the hard work they have put in and dedication. The girls take on the Tigers as their first game November 22nd at Howland High School, and they’d love to see everyone out there to support!
I spoke with junior Kalyssa Werner and she states “I’m so excited for this upcoming season, I can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the team and hopefully we have a very successful season. I’ve seen our team tremendously grow from the summer to now, we’ve improved greatly. Not only our skills but as a team we have really worked together and have came to together as a team.”
This season we even have an all new coaching staff! Head coach Jason Lee, assistant coach Kim Clark, and assistant coach Dontea Dawson.
Annabelle Humphrey junior stated, “I’m so happy basketball season has finally started again, we’ve been practicing a lot and the new coaches have really helped. While only having one senior this year I think all of us juniors goals are to be positive leaders for the underclassmen. Our team has so much fun together and we all work really well together and everyone is determined to have a very successful season together.”
Junior Mackenzie Stowe added, “Approaching the 2025 basketball season, I am incredibly excited to take the court with my teammates once again! This year, we are focusing on not only the physical skills of the game but the mental aspects. Our goal is to run the court more effectively, shock a lot of people, and support each other along the way. This season means a lot more to us- it’s the beginning of a new chapter with a fresh and healthy environment.”
One of the girls goals is to possibly win their conference, Stowe stated how she is really excited to go against one of their rivals Poland. Although the team is young they’ve got some great athletes and great skills that will help them throughout the season. This is the time for the underclassman to really show off their hard work and everything they are capable of.
Freshman Madeline Isenberg said, “I’m super excited to start my first high school season. It’s really a step up from eighth grade but in a good way. It’s sometimes hard being a freshman coming into a sport, but everyone on the team was so welcoming and helpful, I couldn’t be more excited to start this season!”
Pre-season can sometimes be intense, all the training, running, and practicing can sometimes be a lot, but in the end it’s all worth it. As the regular season starts coming up so much excitement starts to build up and everyone waits eagerly for the first game. The Lady Bulldogs hope to see everyone there, so come out and support!
