Lakeview Bulldogs are almost halfway through the 2024-2025 school year! The Yearbook staff wants to ensure that every club gets their memorable moments captured and featured in this year’s yearbook. But, while beginning to work on the yearbook the school publications class has begun to understand the difficulty school clubs face with getting, and submitting pictures of their club activities to include in their school club yearbook pages.
When I asked French teacher Kim Hartley how many times her French club meets per year, she responded, “We meet around 9 times a year, usually on the 3rd Thursday of each month. We take pictures at every meeting.”
The majority of our Lakeview High School clubs meet less than 10 times per year, which isn’t very much time to get pictures for the yearbook! While many of our school clubs may take lots of photos of their clubs, they may not know how to share them so they can get featured in the yearbook.
I had a couple groups who have shared pictures, and have had their photos included in the yearbook give some insight. I met with Spanish teacher Mark Swinning to talk about who takes his club activity photos, and who is responsible for getting those pictures to our yearbook advisor Angela Sarko. When asked about these, Swinning said, “I take pictures for Spanish Club meetings, and I will email them to Mrs. Sarko.”
Emailing isn’t the only way to submit your photos. I also asked Hartley who takes and shares her pictures with Mrs. Sarko, Hartley responded, “The club historian takes pictures unless she’s absent and I take them. I usually lend her my phone because it’s easier for me to crop pictures on it, and I only email myself, and save in Google Drive, the ones that turned out well. The historian takes pictures every meeting, and I tell her to make sure she gets photos of everyone in attendance in groups or as individuals. Other officers will sometimes help with pictures too. They then email them to me.”
Hopefully this insight from some of our clubs heavily included in the yearbook helps our clubs who may get less exposure in the yearbook. We urge our school clubs to take pictures and submit them! We want all of our clubs to get the full opportunity in showing off their club in our yearbook. Who wouldn’t want their school club to be featured in the yearbook?
So now that you’ve been provided with information on how to submit your group pictures to the yearbook, we hope to see more club photos for our book this year!
Including photos of our activities within the groups shows others who are not in clubs how full of engagement clubs can be, and the general sense of the environment between our clubs in Lakeview. This can encourage students to join clubs in the future, for some, creating new beginnings, and for others, the continuation of their school spirit.
When asked if she looked at her club pages published in the yearbook each year, Angela Sarko responded, “Sometimes. Now that I work on the book, I always look.”
Club photos show the daily life of students and represent lasting memories to our club members. These photos showcase activities, achievements, and even personality. Every club we have contributes to Lakeview high school as a whole, and showcasing them within the yearbook ensures that all students feel represented.
We anticipate and encourage our school club members to submit photos so we can fill our club pages with your photos. Club pages are crucial to our yearbook because they preserve memories. These images allow us to look back on involvement and growth throughout the years. They show recognition of our efforts, our appreciation, our love for our peers, and so much more.
